Welcome to Goldfinches’ Weekly Blog
Super scientists this week!
Friday Superstar: Ella
Top Table: Matthew and Christopher
Swimming: Starts on Monday. The children will be swimming from Monday to Thursday this week. The class will be split into 3 groups and will swim for 30 minutes each. Please ensure your child has a one-piece swim suit or swimming trunks, towel and a swim hat. (They will not be allowed to swim without one) They can bring goggles if they would like to. Please provide a plastic carrier bag for their wet kit.
Extra PE session: Goldfinches will be having a very sporty week next week with an extra session of PE on Wednesday morning with Mr A. This is in addition to PE on Monday and Friday and cricket on Tuesday.
This week we have:
Enjoyed working with Miss Beattie on Tuesday and Wednesday morning as part of our transition to Year 5. In geography we have loved investigating how the water cycle works using Mrs Evans’ propagator.
Next week we will:
Writing: Continue to read Blue John as inspiration for our writing and to learn about how caves are formed.
Spellings: homophones- words with the same sound but different spellings and meanings.
Words to learn at home this week: brake, break, great, grate, here, hear, main, mane, meet, meat, peace, piece, plain, plane, mined, mind
Reading homework: Keep reading daily- reading for just 10-15 minutes a day can have several benefits, such as improving concentration and memory, improving mental stimulation, expanding your vocabulary, improving your sleep quality, and reducing stress. Goldfinches are doing so well with this so please keep it up!
Maths:
The National Multiplication Check is now complete however, we will be continuing to work on our times tables every day by using games, online games, worksheets and tests in class. Look out for paper copies of activities and games I’m sending home to support with recall and fluency.
Maths homework: Continuing to play a game on the Maths Frame Multiplication Check will continue to help build their fluency and to end year 4 and begin year 5 with as much confidence as possible.
