Wednesday 20th January
Good morning my lovely Skylarks 😊
I hope you are all well this morning. It has been lovely to see so many of you on our zoom sessions this week. Please see your emails or our class discussion for the meeting link and password. If you are having trouble accessing these please contact the school office via email or telephone.
Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.
Maths
Converting mixed number fractions into improper fractions: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we will be learning how to convert mixed number fractions into improper fractions. This is something we haven’t covered in Year 5 yet so please don’t worry if you find it tricky. Just try your best and ask me if you’re unsure about anything over on our class discussion.
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Times Tables
This week can you practice your x7 tables. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

Writing
Story writing: Again, please see the PowerPoint attached. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do. Today, we will continue to focus on the video ‘The Girl and the Robot’. We will be writing a story about what happened from the viewpoint of either the girl or the robot.
Here is the link to the Girl and the Robot video that you are asked to watch:

Reading
It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.
Oak National Academy have introduced an ‘Author of the Week’. Every week a popular children's author or illustrator will provide you with free books, exclusive videos and their top three recommended reads.
This week’s ‘Author of the Week’ is Jacqueline Wilson. At the link below, you can read her most popular book (The Story of Tracy Beaker), find out more about Jacqueline's inspiration for writing in an exclusive video and download fun activities to try at home, including a mask, a word search and a brilliant quiz.

Spellings
Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the suffix -ably. You could make your own spelling doodle and add to it throughout the week. I will add a new word each day and then on Friday we can have a little quiz.
Today’s word: comfortably
Previous words: suitably, understandably
Story: You will find our story embedded into our Writing PowerPoint – I wonder what the midnight fox will get up to next?
Computing
Barclays have some great online coding sessions available on their website aimed at children aged 7 and over. Why not try the first challenge today?
They all use scratch which is of course free to use online or download.

Worship
Today for our worship I would like you to take part in a guided meditation on My Smiling Mind, just like we do in school.
Some of you may have set this up last week, if so just login to your account and take part in session 2: https://app.smilingmind.com.au/
If you haven’t yet made an account, you can follow these instructions. First, you will need to sign up to a free account at https://app.smilingmind.com.au/ (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’. Then you need to select which type of mindfulness activities you are interested in, I recommend choosing ‘improving wellbeing’. Finally select the resources for ’10-12 year olds’ and you will now have access to 60+ mindfulness sessions that are great to help your child relax, unwind and switch off after a busy day of home learning.
Have a super day Skylarks and remember I will be on our class discussion during the school day for a chat or to help you with your home learning 😊
Love from Miss Beattie x
