Our Christian Values are Hope, Respect, Friendship, Love, Courage, Forgiveness

Skylarks WB 12.7.21

Date: 8th Jul 2021 @ 8:05am

Hello everyone and welcome back to our weekly blog ? I can’t believe that we are looking ahead to the final full week of the year!

Next week in our writing lessons we will be using research to find out more about Chris Hadfield. We will then group this information into themes before writing about him in the style of a biography.

In maths we will be focussing on writing decimals as fractions. We will also continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.

Throughout next week, we will be focussing our learning heavily on our topic and DT themes and will embark on two projects. First, we will think about how the Vikings would load and unload their boats and will then design and make a machine that uses a pulley mechanism that is fit for this purpose. We will then think about seasonality and the problems faced by the Vikings when their land was infertile. We will then taste, design and make our own healthy soup, focusing on developing skills such as measuring, peeling, chopping, blending and simmering.

On Friday 16th July, all children will enjoy a fun takeover day where they can come to school in their own clothes, have a PE slot with Mr Ault, enjoy time on a bouncy castle and have a special picnic lunch. Children should pay £2 on the school gate and all money raised will go towards new play equipment chosen by the children.

Head Student and Team Captains

Thank you so much to all the children who applied for one of the above roles, we are so exceptionally proud of them all and want to thank the children for putting so much time and effort into their presentations. Well done to our new head students (Bella, Robyn, Jack, Lauren) and tree team captains (Gabriel, Leyla, Scarlett, Cody) ?

Fishing

We have one more week of fishing left where the remaining children in Year 5 will have the opportunity to attend (weather dependent). Parents will be emailed the Monday before your child is due to go. Children should wear warm, comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear.

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

Homework

The children should complete pages 38 and 39 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 16th July. This homework is looking at ordering and comparing decimals.

Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their maths homework.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 16th July will be the next 10 words from the year 5/6 statutory word list:

prejudice, privilege, profession, programme, pronunciation, queue, recognise, recommend, relevant, rhyme

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact ?
