Skylarks W.B. 21.06.21
Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 8:05am
Hello everyone and welcome back to our weekly blog! We have had another super week of learning in Skylarks Class?
In our English lessons next week, we will continue to explore our text ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield. We will also read an accompanying book called ‘One Giant Leap’ and will use this text to retrieve and record factual information about the first moon landing. We will then develop these facts to create sentences with parenthesis (extra information or an afterthought usually marked off with brackets, dashes, or commas).
In our reading lessons will continue to read about the International Space Station and will focus our learning on how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning. We will also focus on differentiating between fact and opinion.
In maths we will be focusing on subtracting fractions, including improper fractions and mixed numbers. We will also use our knowledge of equivalent fractions to help us give our answers in the simplest form. We will continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.
In science we will continue to add to our knowledge of the solar system. We will make models to help us understand that day and night are caused by the rotation of the Earth, and that the Sun only appears to move across the sky.
In RE we will be learning about the connection between forgiveness and acting justly. We will think about the different verses we have read so far and will use role play to show how the pharisees and teachers of the law did not act justly and will make suggestions as to how they should have acted instead.
Our PE days will be Thursday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
Homework
The children should complete pages 48 and 49 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 25th June. This homework is looking at calculating perimeter.
Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.
Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their maths homework.
Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 25th June will focus on words ending in the suffix -ence:
absence, evidence, independence, intelligence, silence, confidence, competence, magnificence
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact ?
