Our Christian Values are Hope, Respect, Friendship, Love, Courage, Forgiveness

Skylarks WB 5.7.21

Date: 2nd Jul 2021 @ 11:18am

Hello everyone and welcome back to our weekly blog! We have had another super week of learning in Skylarks Class?

Next week in our English lessons, we will be focusing on summarising the story ‘The Darkest Dark’. We will create our own timelines of Chris Hadfield’s childhood, considering how he felt and acted at each point in his life. We will then work in pairs to choose and write about one key event in his life, applying all of our learning from this half term. We will focus on using effective vocabulary and varied sentences, including adverbial phrases, relative clauses and brackets to indicate parenthesis.

In our reading lessons will continue to read about the International Space Station and Astronaut Chris Hadfield. Our main focus will remain on how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning.

In maths we will continue our work on fractions. We will consolidate our knowledge of multiplying fractions, before moving on to finding fractions of amounts (e.g. 4/6 of 72). We will also continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.

In RE we will be writing a diary entry from a Christian point of view. In it we will explain the connection/differences between forgiveness and justice.

During our topic day, we will work collaboratively to research and compare the human and physical geography of a North American region with a European region that we have studied so far.

Transition Morning

Next week, the children will also spend time with Mrs Downing, Mrs Whittingham and Mr Beswick during our transition morning, which is a great opportunity for the children to ask questions and get to know their teachers ready for September ?

Head Student and Team Captains

On Monday 5th July, Skylarks will have the opportunity to apply for the above roles. They will be asked to present their application to the rest of the class, which will be recorded and shared with staff members too. Skylarks children and staff members will then vote in a secret ballot, before the results will be announced.

Fishing

We have two more weeks of fishing left where the remaining children in Year 5 will have the opportunity to attend (weather dependent). Parents will be emailed the Monday before your child is due to go. Children should wear warm, comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear.

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

Homework

The children should complete pages 32 and 33 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 9th July. This homework is looking at multiplying fractions.

Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their maths homework.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 9th July will focus on words containing the ‘ee’ sound spelt ‘ei’.

receive, deceive, conceit, conceive, seize, protein, caffeine, neither

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact ?
