Weekly Blog
Week commencing Monday 5th July
Hello Starlings and welcome back to our weekly class blog.
We cannot believe there are only 3 weeks left in Starlings class. The children are continuing to amaze us every day and make us proud. Here’s a little snapshot of what we have achieved in this past week and will be learning in the week ahead.
English
In writing we have continued to use the text ‘Toys in Space’ by Mini Grey to inspire our writing. We have been learning to add suffixes to words when writing in the past tense and we have written some letters for different purposes, including to say sorry to a friend and to invite friends to a party.
Next week, we will be completing our unit of work on ‘Toys in Space’. We will reading the end of the story and using the past tense to write diary recounts of important events in the book. We will also be sequencing the events from the story before planning and writing our own adventure stories inspired by ‘Toys in Space’.
Maths
In Maths we have been solving addition and subtraction word problems using numbers to 50. We also reviewed our home learning focus and completed lots of practical activities to support our knowledge and learning of measurements for weight and capacity.
Next week we will be preparing for Year 2 by learning all about numbers to 100. We will be learning to count to 100, and to explore number patterns and partition numbers to 100 using what we already know to help us.
