Swallows - Tuesday 26th January 2021

Tuesday 26th January 2021
Hello and welcome back to Swallows class blog.
Did you have that special proud feeling yesterday? Were you able to orally re-tell the story of Saint George and the Dragon? Did you log in to Times Tables Rock Stars and choose your rock star name? Did you create a special poem thinking about our Christian value of respect? I just loved seeing what you have been getting up to on School Spider. Thank you for sharing your work with me, Swallows.
Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or tell have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages. It is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch.
Maths – Can I make the same amount? Please see the talking Power point video linked below. Please don’t worry that the videos appear to be a little bit longer. This is because the White Rose video is now embedded onto the PowerPoint. I hope this helps by having it all in one place. In case you want to open the video on a separate device or in a new tab, I have also put the link to this video below.
Here is a link to the video shown during our PowerPoint today:
Times Tables
I was planning to introduce Times Tables Rock Stars to the children in the first week of January. We would have had some sessions using it in school so that I could then have sent the log in details home with the children to use as part of their weekly Maths homework, which is in line with our Key Stage Two classes. However, the National Lockdown prevented this from happening.
As we do not have a confirmed date for the children to return to school, I have set the children up on this system for them to use at home if you wish. The children can practise the times tables that I have set for them (these will predominantly be 2's, 5's and 10's in Y2) using a devise. As they play, they can earn coins and make their way up the leader board. This is a fun, engaging and interactive way for the children to learn their times tables.
If you would like your child's log in details, please contact the school office via the admin address and they will email them across to you. Ideally, I would have explained how this works with the children and they would have had time in class to navigate the game with me in the classroom. Therefore, you may wish to wait until we are back in school so that I can explain it to the children in detail.

Writing
Can I re-tell the story of Saint George and the Dragon?
Please see the talking PowerPoint video linked below. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click play and then pause when it is time to complete an activity.
I have attached the story of ‘Saint George and the Dragon’ to our blog so that you can remind yourself of what happened in the story if you need to. Please do remember to use your story plan or the plan provided on the slides to help you.
Please don't worry about the date being wrong. It is the correct video PowerPoint, I have just named the YouTube video incorrectly. I am all confused with the days! Apologies.

Read Write Inc
Instructions for how to find your RWI learning for today can be found on our English PowerPoint. Here is the link to the Read Write Inc home page on YouTube. It might help to add this as a favourite so that you can quickly find your Read Write Inc learning each day. Please remember that the website updates at 9:30 each day.

Story
Please have a listen to the next chapter of our beautiful story ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’. You will find the audio at the end of our English PowerPoint. I will read a little bit of the story to you here each day.

Have a BRILLIANT day Swallows and don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with your learning today. I would love to see even more learning uploaded to the homework section of school spider today. Please remember that if you want to privately upload your work, you need to select the green ‘Upload your homework’ button which is located in the top right hand corner of the screen on most devices. The orange buttons which say ‘Add image’, ‘Add a file’ and ‘Add a YouTube video’ are for posting to the homework discussion. All of Swallows class can see this. When you upload your work, you can only attach 1 file to each home work task set. For this reason, you will need to photograph both pages of your maths work together and upload as one attachment. I will still be able to see your work, don't worry. I will explain all of this during our Zoom call this morning.
See you on Zoom at 9:20.
Lots of love from
Miss Gillam
