Welcome to Swallows Class Blog
Miss Gillam and Mrs Elson have been so impressed with how kind, calm and hard-working Swallows have been this week. Swallows have been ready, respectful and safe and even managed to fill their class recognition board this week. We have enjoyed learning our new class routines and had lots of fun exploring our focus Christian Value for this half term, friendship. We have enjoyed starting our new writing and reading focus texts this week, begun our maths focus on place value and completed our Read Write Inc assessments. We are now in brand new groups, ready to get started with learning new sounds next week. We also enjoyed our first PE and Music lessons with Mr Ault and Dan this week.
Next week:
English – We will continue to explore our exciting new text ‘Troll Swap by Leigh Hodgkinson next week, making links to other familiar troll stories. We will write character descriptions and write letters to Timothy and Tabitha’s grandparents.
Our Read Write Inc group work will begin next week. We will learn a new sound each day which will be shared in homework diaries each week.
Maths – In Maths we will be focusing on the place value of numbers to 100. We will represent, compare and order numbers.
Swallows will enjoy a weekly ukulele lesson with Dan each Thursday afternoon until October half term.
Homework
Reading – Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime story books. Please remember the importance of your child listening to you read during this time too.
Spellings – During the Autumn term our spellings will be focused on the Year Two Common Exception words. These are words that the children will come across frequently in both their reading and writing. We will complete a spelling quiz in class every Friday. Please use the spelling whiteboard in your child’s bag to help them to learn their spellings each week.
