Hello SUPER Swallows!
Welcome back to our weekly blog.
Thank you so much for working so hard once again this week. Mrs Elson and I are so proud of every single one of you.
Reading
We have loved starting whole class, shared reading lessons again this week. We are completing 3 whole class reading session’s each week now in addition to our Read Write Inc learning. We are reading the interesting book ‘Above and Below’ by Hakako Clulow.
Our new Read Write Inc sounds are /ea/- cup of tea, /oi/ - spoil the boy and /a_e/ - make a cake.
Spelling
Our Read Write Inc Spelling lessons have focused on the or sound spelt a before l and ll.
Here are our spellings for this week. You will also find a copy of these spellings in your reading diary.
Writing
In writing we have been exploring our class text ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’. We enjoyed changing adjectives into adverbs and used them to describe how owls and fireworks move. We also learnt how to use commas to list adjectives in a description of the characters from the story.
Maths
Our Maths work was focused on subtraction this week. We solved lots of tricky problems using number lines, Dienes and the column method to help us. We also learnt how to use the Bar Model to help us to solve missing number problems.
Art
In Art, we have been looking at the artist Sue Newham and analysing her use of colour and line. Next week we will use her artwork as inspiration for our own piece of art which will be displayed around school.
Homework
Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings for 5-10 minutes each day. Please remember to sign your child’s diary each time they read and let us know what page they are up to.
Our PE days this half term are Thursday and Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember to only send your child in laces if they can tie them independently.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school admin email address or telephone.
