Week beg. 21.09.20
Welcome to Toucans Class Blog. We will be in touch weekly to keep you updated with all that is happening in our class.
It has been fantastic having everyone back in school and welcoming our new Toucans!
We are working on our whole school topic ‘All Together Now’ celebrating being back together as a class and reflecting on past experiences through art work, mindfulness, circle time and other nurturing activities.
In Maths we are working on Place value, being able to read and write numbers to 10, 000, 000.
In English we are using the books ‘Of Thee I Sing’ and ‘Young, Gifted and Black’ as a stimulus for our writing. The children will be participating in discussions, summarising main ideas, writing cohesive paragraphs and revising various sentence structures and tenses.
In RE our topic is Diversity and we will be celebrating the variety of people in our class as well as exploring our own identities.
In Science, we will begin our new topic – Light.
Home Reading
This week I have sent home your child with a reading book and their new homework diary. The children are all reading a wide range of additional books and texts in class and we are encouraging them to continue to read their own choice of books at home each day to develop their love of reading. If you can read aloud to your child too, this would be great!
Please note that we will not be writing in the homework diaries but would encourage Year 6s to record their own reading and aim to read at least 3 times a week and they will then receive a raffle ticket. We will stamp the diaries in class when we are checking reading.
Here is a selection of recommended reads for Year 6.
Our PE day is Friday so please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on that day. Mr Ault will also be running an after school club for Year 6s after school on a Friday.
Kind regards
Mrs Whittingham, Mrs Downing and Mr Beswick
