Toucans WB 12.09.22

Date: 8th Sep 2022 @ 1:51pm

Welcome to Toucans’ Weekly Blog ?

I hope that you all had a wonderful summer holiday and are feeling ready and refreshed for the year ahead.

The highlight this first week back has been getting to know a little bit more about each and every special pupil in Toucans class.

Next Week (W.B. 12.09.22)

Reminders:

  • PE will take place on both a Monday and a Friday, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit on these days. PE kits should either be school kits or plain blue/black.
  • There will be a short ‘meet the teacher’ presentation evening taking place at school on Wednesday 14th September at 3:15pm, 3:45pm, 4:45pm and 5:15pm for anyone who would like to meet me and learn a little bit more about what life for your child will be like in Year 6.

Curriculum:

In English, we will continue to read our story Star of Fear, Star of Hope and will be writing a diary entry as one of the main characters. Additionally, we will also look at changing from the active to the passive voice.

In maths next week, we will continue our work on place value by developing our rounding skills and look at negative numbers.

In science, we will focus on how light enables us to see objects and the importance of reflection.

In our history/geography lesson, we will be continue to investigate the Battle of Hastings and its significance.

In art, we will continue to look at our artist Paul Nash and begin to create war sketches in his style.

In RE, we will continue to explore what it means to live in a religious diverse world and undertake a class debate about discrimination.

Homework

Children in Year 6 will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers provided in the back of their homework book. If your child is finding the homework challenging, I will ensure that supervision is provided one lunchtime each week where your child can ask any questions or receive the support they need to complete the homework.

Children should complete page 6 of their maths homework book this week and return it to school by Thursday 15th September.

Please also encourage your child to read for 15-20 minutes each evening and practice their spellings/times tables. The following website is great for times tables practice:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 16th September will focus on suffixes and will be:

Asking, fastest, floated, jumped, lightening, loudly, prouder, sprinter, sweetest, yawning.

Please remember that if you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to get in contact!
