Date: 22nd Sep 2022 @ 2:28pm
Welcome Back to Toucans’ Weekly Blog ?
We have had another fantastic week in Toucans class, where the children have been working so incredibly hard in all lessons. Their passion and enthusiasm for learning has been evident across the curriculum.
Praise: Savannah
Top Table: Anthony and Toby
Next Week (W.B. 26.09.22)
Reminders:
- Thursday 29th September will be our trip to Petty Pool. Please ensure to send your child into school in warm clothing, with a waterproof coat, and suitable trainers to take part in the activities. The children will need to bring their lunch and snack with them in a disposable plastic bag; labelled with their name. If your child needs an inhaler, please ensure that they bring this along too.
- Year 5 and Year 6 will have an assembly on Monday 26th September with the headteacher of Rudheath Senior Academy.
- PE will take place on both a Monday and a Friday each week, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit on these days. PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/navy.
Curriculum:
In English, we will finish reading our story Star of Fear, Star of Hope. We will be focusing upon writing a thank you letter in role and making predictions about what may have happened to one of our two main characters. We will also write an informal, chatty email to tell a friend about our Petty Pool trip.
In maths, we will continue with our 4-a-day arithmetic questions each morning, and look at factors, multiples, and prime numbers.
In science, we will be investigating how the size of a shadow changes when a light source is moved closer or further away from an object.
In our history/geography lesson, we will discuss how the Wars of the Roses ended and their significance in history.
In art, we will continue to create our Paul Nash inspired conflict paintings using our sketches as a foundation.
In RE, we will produce an informative poster about ‘the golden rule’.
Homework:
Children in Year 6 will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers provided in the back of their homework book. If your child is finding the homework challenging, I will ensure that supervision is provided one lunchtime each week where your child can ask any questions or receive the support they need to complete the homework.
Children should complete page 9 of their maths homework book this week and return it to school by Thursday 29th September.
Please also encourage your child to read for 15-20 minutes each evening and practice their spellings and times tables. Children need to record their reading in their homework diaries/planners. The following website is great for times tables practice: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 30th September will again focus on suffixes and will be: achievement, beautiful, careless, definitely, flavourful, government, laziness, speedily, thoroughness, wriggly.
Please remember that if you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to get in contact!
