20.4.20 Welcome Back Starlings

Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 8:56am

Good morning Starlings,

I hope you have enjoyed the Easter break and managed to spend lots of time outdoors enjoying the warmer weather. Again, I am sure it feels a little bit strange not coming into school this morning, as I know it has felt this way for me. I am SO proud of you all and know that you are going to continue to surprise me with how amazingly you face the start of our new term of home learning. Remember:

‘’You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.’’ A.A Milne

I have had another busy week completing my ‘Couch to 5k’ running program at home. Yesterday I ran for 20 minutes without stopping, something I never thought that I would be able to do. For me, this is a massive achievement that I am incredibly proud of after only being able to run for 4 minutes when I started the program at the start of lockdown. Are you proud of anything you have achieved this week? I would love to hear all about it. Please Tweet your successes or email me at admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk.

I have attached our Starlings Class Timetable and Task List to help structure your week again this week – remember to use your packs to support you with the tasks set.

Maths

As lots of you are now starting to finish the number work in your packs, I would like you to access the online ‘White Rose’ maths lessons linked below. There is a daily maths lessons with attached independent activities to complete. These activities can be either printed off and completed or simply written into your exercise book if preferred.  What matters is the number work and not the presentation, so please do not feel the need to print these resources.

Select Summer Term – Week 1. If you have not already completed week 1 and 2, the activities are still available to use if you choose to use them.

I have also attached some documents containing ideas about active maths lesson’s which might be good fun to complete at home.

  • Cooking with Maths
  • Garden Maths
  • Lego Maths

Reading

At school, Read Write Inc is an important part of our daily routine, teaching our children to both read and spell. The children love the repetitive nature of the program and like that they can feel success in each and every session. I have attached a guide for how to access some fantastic phonic resources, including live RWI Speed Sound lessons.

Oxford Owl is a website school subscribes to and I have set up a username and password so that you can access all of the free online reading books at home. These books are colour banded and include many of the Read Write Inc story books that we read in school.

Please continue to follow the attached timetable, this week is all about establishing routines and learning how to make home learning work for you and your family. Don’t worry if things don’t always go to plan, there is always tomorrow. I want you all to enjoy your first week back to home learning and remember that learning is all around us – Enjoy spending time outdoors where possible, cook, bake, read, play board games, but most importantly… HAVE FUN!

Remember Joe Wickes will be doing a live PE session this morning at 9am. Just search ‘The Body Coach TV’ on YouTube.

You know where I am if you need me. I am thinking of you all and can’t wait to see some of your SUPER learning on Twitter. Have fun and be kind.

Stay safe!

Lots of love from

Miss Gillam

Message from Mrs Powell

When you talk, you are only repeating something you know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” – Dalai Lama

What have you learnt from someone around you? On our daily walk, I found out that my daughter is an expert on windfarms. What could you learn from someone?  What could you teach someone?
