Swallows class are spending time exploring our whole school project based on Global Neighbours. We will be finding out as much as possible over the next few weeks.
In maths we are going back to fill gaps in addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication and division, to support the children ready for their SATs papers.

You will have noticed this week that your child may have changed RWI groups or come off the scheme to move on to Pathways to Read. If you have any concerns about how your child is progressing with their reading, please come and speak with me so that I can share more personalised strategies.
Reading
Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime story books. Please remember the importance of your child listening to YOU read during this time too.
Spellings
For the next two weeks we are going to focus on spelling contractions. It is crucial that the children learn to join the letters accurately and where an apostrophe is the letters either side of it cannot be joined.

Please complete your times tables work sheet for this week. Some children have now moved on to learning their 5 x tables! Well done! If you would like your child to progress quicker, please access times tables rockstars to support their times tables knowledge.

We have welcomed Miss Wilkinson who will be completing her teaching practice with us for the next few weeks.
Worship: We enjoyed our worship with Vicar Andrew and as always, it was wonderful to be part of Open the Book again this week.
Writing: This week we have focused on creating a thought, feelings and speech chart to help us with recount writing and will use this in our writing on Tuesday.

It was lovely to welcome back everyone this week. I hope both children and parents had a restful break.
We have had a busy first week back getting ready for our SATS which will begin on Monday 9th May. The children have worked hard in our lessons which have focused on Maths and English. This will be the focus again for the next 2 weeks. The children have also enjoyed their cricket lesson and usual PE with Mr Ault. On Wednesday 27th April they will also have an extra PE lesson With Mr Ault, 9 - 10am as well as cricket in the afternoon which I know they will look forward to and enjoy.

English homework - continue working on CGP Reading and SPAG books, please just complete the sections which you have not done so far

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
Skylarks have had a fantastic first week back after Easter. The children have worked very hard, particularly in our tricky work on fractions. I am really looking forward to all of our exciting learning planned for the summer term.
Next Week (W.B. 25.04.22)
In English, we will be using our research on Chris Hadfield to help us plan and write an autobiography. We will apply our knowledge of adverbials, relative clauses and parenthesis to make our writing cohesive and engaging.
In Shared Reading, we will finish reading our text ‘Exploring Space’. Our focus will continue to be on identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning.
In maths, we will continue our learning on adding and subtracting fractions. We will be looking at trickier problem-solving questions involving different denominators and will use our knowledge of improper fractions and mixed numbers to convert our answers. We will also consolidate our understanding of the four operations through daily 4-A-Day activities.
In RE, we will continue to explore our theme ‘forgiveness’. We will read two verses from the books of Matthew and Luke and will compare what Jesus says in each. We will then use drama to show how the Pharisees acted and how they should have acted instead, taking account of Jesus’ teachings.
During our history and geography day, we will continue with our whole school ‘Global Neighbours’ project where Skylarks Class will explore Global Goal number 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’. Next week we will focus our learning on land use and environmental inventions which have been created to help make the world a more sustainable place.
In Science, we will be concluding our learning on living things by comparing the living things found in our local environment and comparing them with other plants and animals around the world. We will also learn about the 19th century Botanist ‘Joseph Banks’.
Our PE day this term is on Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
Homework
In year 5 the children will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers in the back of the homework book.
If your child is finding the homework tricky, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Thursday lunchtime for your child to ask any questions or receive some support to complete their homework.
The children should complete the worksheet on adding and subtracting fractions this week to be returned by Friday 29th April. The answers for this homework will be available in school so that the children can mark their work.

Welcome back to the Summer term. We have got a really busy and exciting term ahead of us as we near the end of Year 2. This week we will be welcoming another student teacher into the class, who is in their final placement before qualifying and the children are excited to meet them.

We are going to spend time developing our test techniques in reading by using skimming and scanning the text for retrieval answers. In maths, we are going to be compiling lessons together to ensure that all content is taught. The children will begin the day recapping 4 a day to maintain their level of understanding.
We are researching and discovering information about endangered and extinct animals and how and why they are in this position.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
What a fantastic Spring term we have had in Skylarks Class. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication that the children have shown. We have loved learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, exploring the life cycles of various animals and plants, and learning all about the ISS and Chris Hadfield in our English lessons. I can’t wait to see where our learning takes us in the Summer term.
After Half Term (W.B. 18.04.22)
School will return as normal on Tuesday 19th April 2022. Please remind your child to bring in their instrument on this day for our music lesson.
There will be a Cake Sale after school on Wednesday 20th April – KS2 classes to bring in cakes please.
In English, we will be recapping the key events in our book ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield. We will then spend the week planning, writing and editing our final piece; a formal biography about Chris Hadfield.
In Shared Reading, we will finish reading our text ‘Exploring Space’. Our focus will continue to be on identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning.
In maths, we will continue our learning on fractions. We will be focusing specifically on adding and subtraction fractions with different denominators. We will also consolidate our understanding of the four operations through daily 4-A-Day activities.
During our history and geography day, we will continue with our whole school ‘Global Neighbours’ project where Skylarks Class will explore Global Goal number 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’. During the first week back, we will be exploring the questions ‘What are natural resources?’, ‘Why are they running out?’ and ‘How can we be more sustainable?’
In Science, we recap how flowering plants reproduce through sexual reproduction before moving on to learn about asexual reproduction in plants. We will explore how plants can reproduce using runners, tubers, bulbs and cuttings
Our PE day this term is on Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
Homework
There will be no maths homework or spellings to learn over the Easter holidays. We will set new spellings and homework during the first week back, ready to be handed in WB 25.04.22.
Please do encourage your child to do a little bit of reading each day over the holidays. A magazine, newspaper or even a menu is a great way to encourage this.

Toucans had a fantastic trip to the Imperial War Museum last Wednesday. They enjoyed learning about how the lives of people have changed due to conflicts from World War 1 to the present day. The highlight for most of them was watching the 360 degree movies that were projected around the main exhibition area in the museum. This week they have been drawing this topic to a close and exploring the effect of rationing on people during and after World War 2.
Homework
Spellings for next week are: allowed, immediately, determined, communication, dessert, criticise, rhythm, considerable, development, interrupt, stationary, accompany and will be tested on Thursday 31st March - children have been given a copy of these words to keep in their homework diaries.

Friday 25th March

We have had such an amazing residential at Delamere forest and made some brilliant memories. The children were so well behaved and really represented our school well.
Miss Cooper, our student teacher, will be leaving us to finish her studies at University before beginning her career as a teacher. We are so thankful for all the support she has provided to the children and the great relationships she has made with Swallows class. We wish her well in the future and hope that she continues to shine!

Week commencing 21st March 2022
Hello and Welcome to Puffins Weekly blog!
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful sunshine this weekend!!
Last week
Puffins were learning about the lifecycles of butterflies, ladybirds, bees, frogs and the sunflower. We planted out our sunflowers so we are going to be measuring them each week to see how long it takes for them to grow.
Our caterpillars are growing now so it won’t be long before they will turn into a chrysalis. We are checking them every day and taking photographs of them each week.
This week
Puffins will be doing lots of art in the afternoons. We will be looking at paintings by Claude Monet, in particular his famous lilies paintings. We will be sketching, using different types of paint, and creating different textures in our work.
We will also be planting some runner beans, onions and rhubarb this week plus some more wild flowers and other flowering plants.
Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
Skylarks have had another super week of learning this week. The children were super stars on our trip to Tatton Hall and learnt so much new knowledge.
Next Week (W.B. 21.03.22)
In English, we will be continuing with our book ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield. We will be focussing on writing a recount of Chris’ ‘strange night’ using our timelines from this week. In our writing, we will be using adverbials of time, place and number to link across paragraphs. We will also be carrying out our own research about the first moon landing using a variety of sources, including videos and non-fiction texts.
In Shared Reading, we will continue to read our text ‘Exploring Space’. Our focus will continue to be on identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning.
In maths, we will continue our learning on fractions. Will be consolidating our understanding of equivalents, improper and mixed number fractions and will apply this knowledge in comparison questions.
In RE, we will continue to explore what Jesus teaches people about forgiveness. We will be learning about the difference between forgiveness and justice and will debate the question: ‘Can forgiveness and Justice go hand in hand?’
During our history and geography day, we will continue with our whole school ‘Global Neighbours’ project where Skylarks Class will explore Global Goal number 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’. Next week we will be thinking about the human impact on geographical features. We will explore both the positive and negative impact that humans have on the world.
In Science, we will be focusing on plants and how they reproduce. We will learn new vocabulary such as ‘fertilisation’, ‘pollination’ and ‘asexual reproduction’.
Our PE day this term is on Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

Welcome to Miss Wilson who we are delighted to have working with Goldfinches and Robins classes:
Worship: We launched our new whole school environment topic where we will learn to be Global Neighbours and Courageous Advocates for change. We learned about some of the environmental problems there are in the world and what people are doing or planning to do to help.
Writing: We will be developing our use of fronted adverbials through a diary based on ‘When the Giant Stirred’
Reading: We will find out more about our new shared reading text ‘Ariki and the Island of Wonders’ and identify the different question types as well as improving our fluency in reading.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Starling's weekly blog ?
What a busy first week back we have had. The children have worked so hard this week and we have enjoyed the introduction to our new class text. We participated in an eco-warrior assembly this week work links in with our whole school Global Goal project where Starings class are focusing on Global goal number 15 'Life on Land'
Thank you so much for taking the time to enjoy sharing stories with your Starling at home. If your child has received new books recently that you think other children will enjoy and you are happy for them to be in school we would love to share them with the whole Starlings class.
Reading
The children will continue to bring home a Read Write Inc book, a book bag book and a bedtime story each week. This provides them with a variety of familiar, new and challenging texts to read. Bedtime storybooks are to be enjoyed with an adult. Reading TO the children ensures that they experience the magic of a story coming to life and have a purpose and love of reading.
As part of our Explorers, theme Starlings class will be Environmental Explorers this half term. In our history and geography lessons, we will continue with our whole school 'Global Neighbours' project where Starlings will explore Global Goal number 15 'Life on Land.
Starlings will be exploring how we can reduce, reuse and recycle our unwanted items. We will also be exploring how we can protect, restore and promote our planet's insects, animals and plants.

This week we have been 'hooked' on our new class text and we have made predictions as to what we think the story may be about using the clues presented. So far we think it is a story about Baby Bear now that he has grown up. Will our predictions be right?
Maths
In maths, this week Starlings will be progressing on to measure where we will use standard and non-standard units of measurements in our maths work. We will be using the vocabulary shorter, longer, shortest, longest and compare.

During the Spring term, our spellings will be focused on the Year One Common Exception words. These are words that the children will come across frequently in both their reading and writing. We will complete a spelling quiz in class every Friday. Please use your spelling whiteboard to help you to learn your spellings each week. We will write your child's score in their diary each week. This will be written next to the spellings they have been tested on that day. This will be on the page of the previous weeks.

Hi Everyone
Thank you all for your time last week, it was wonderful to talk with you all either on the phone or in school. The children were really excited to share their work with you. If you didn't manage to come in and would like to have a little look at your child's books, please let me know and we can arrange a time.
This week in Writing, we are finalising our Stone Age stories and editing our work looking at speech punctuation and detailed description through noun phrases and adverbs.
In Maths, we are exploring the connections between multiplication and division. We will embed our understanding of repeated additon and division and look at how to use our times tables knowledge and understanding to calculate with bigger numbers outside of 12 x a number eg 68 divided by 4. We will learn how to divide with numbers that have a remainder and solve problems.
In Reading, we will complete the Iron Man story and discuss if we are happy with the ending. We will use our inference skills to discuss Hogarth's feelings, actions and emotions as well as explore the Iron Man's personality.
We will celebrate British Science Week by exploring the theme of Growth. Robins class will delve into the ocean to see how the growth of pollution is affecting marine habitats. We will conduct simple experiments to see the damage that oil has on the ocean as well as continuing our rocks and soils learning. Our question this week is based around the hardness of each rock. The children will plan a fair test and focus on writing a conclusion.
In RE the children continue their learning under the theme of Discipleship. They will explore times Jesus spent with his disciples and reflect on the messages given and the importance/relavance of these in our lives today. "Christ is the light that guides us."
In PE, the children will be putting the final touches to their Stone Age dance, look out on Twitter for their performances!

This week, we are so excited to take the children on their first ever residential to Fox Howl. After having great memories there myself, I am confident that the children will make memories that will stay with them for life. Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
Skylarks have had another super week of learning this week. It has been particularly wonderful to see the children bring all of their history and geography learning together to design a new civilisation, taking human and physical features from each of the civilisations we have learnt about.
Reminders:
Skylarks Trip: We can’t wait to visit Tatton Old Hall on Friday 11th March for our Viking and Anglo-Saxon living history day. Please ensure your child is in full school uniform, sensible shoes and has a warm, waterproof coat. Packed lunches must be in a disposable plastic bag clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children should arrive into school promptly at 8.30am.
Next Week (W.B. 14.03.22)
In English, we will be starting our new book ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Chris Hadfield. We will be using noun phrases and relative clause sentences to help us write a setting description and a description of Chris Hadfield and his early life.
In Shared Reading, we will continue to read our text ‘Exploring Space’. Our focus will be on identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning. We will be learning about the difference between fact and opinion and identifying examples of each within the text.
In maths, we will be learning all about fractions. We will explore equivalent fractions and will also learn how to convert between improper and mixed number fractions. We will also consolidate our understanding of the four operations through daily 4-A-Day activities.
In RE, we will be exploring what Jesus teaches people about forgiveness in two different bible verses from the book of Matthew. Children will be encouraged to think about whether the advice given by Jesus should still be followed today.
During our history and geography day, we will begin our whole school ‘Global Neighbours’ project where Skylarks Class will explore Global Goal number 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’.
Next week is also British Science Week and this year’s theme is ‘growth’. Linking with our topic work, we will carry out various activities which explore the concept of sustainability. We will learn about where our energy comes from and how we can become more sustainable global neighbours.
Our PE day this term is on Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
Homework
In year 5 the children will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers in the back of the homework book.
If your child is finding the homework tricky, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime for your child to ask any questions or receive some support to complete their homework.
The children should complete page 28 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 18th March. This homework is looking at equivalent fractions.

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Blog
This week we have been doing lots of practical Maths and taking photos of the children’s brilliant work.
We have listened to the story of “The Good Samaritan” and used puppets to retell the story.
Our caterpillars arrived and we are looking forward to watching them grow!
Next Week
We will continue with our practical Maths, phonics and reading.
This week is science week so we will be looking at the life cycle of a caterpillar drawing diagrams and labelling it.
We will also be continuing our work in the garden but will be searching for other mini beasts and comparing their life cycles with the caterpillar.
We will also be planting out other seeds this week and digging more beds.

History: We will begin to explore the questions: Who has made a difference to the world? How do people influence others? We will learn about the environmental activist Jane Goodall.
Science: As part of our Science week focus on growth, we will be learning about the impact of growing cities on the ocean and finding out about ocean habitats and food chains. We will be exploring the impact of oil spills and how we could solve an oil slick problem.

We have started reading our class text. So far Oscar has been woken up by a strange noise and discovered a woolly mammoth whose name is Timothy! Timothy is looking for his little brother Teddy. Oscar and Timothy have chased him up the steps to the museum where they have discovered many strange happenings.
Maths
In maths Starlings class have been looking at numbers up to 50. We have been counting forwards and backwards and discussing what is one more and one less than different numbers. We have then partitioned two-digit numbers into tens and ones.
In Religion we have been exploring Good News. We have discussed how we might share news and we thought about how we take photographs to remember lovely times we have experienced and how we might send these to families and friends. We also discussed good new stories in the bible and we remembered God’s beautiful creation, Jesus being born and Jesus rising on Easter Sunday.
In history we are going to be looking at Mary Anning and the impact she had not only as a palaeontologist but as an influential woman.
In Science, we continue to explore the topic of animals and humans. We will be looking at answering some of the questions we wanted to find the answer to before the holidays.

This week, we are celebrating British Science Week where there are going to be plenty of opportunities for the children to participate in celebrating Science. Currently, we have welcomed some caterpillars into our classroom to study and experience the life cycle process of a butterfly.

It has been a great week back with Toucans. They enjoyed completing lots of poetry based activities on World Book Day and produced some fabulous River Poems. Next week the children will be learning about the dangerous effects of drugs and alcohol on their body as part of their Science work with Mr Corkill. We also look forward to sharing your child’s progress at our Parent Teacher meetings next week.
Homework
Spelling are taken from the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling CGP book. Test is on page 18 which they can do at home. The words and sentences containing the spelling words, just like they would get on their SATs paper, are on the middle stapled pages of the book.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
What a super week back we have had in Skylarks Class. It was fantastic to see so many of the children dress up for World Book Day. We had a fun-filled day sharing our favourite stories, hearing from an author and performing our own poem for Starlings class!
Reminders:
Parents Evening: Parent phone calls for Skylarks class will take place on Tuesday 8th March between 8.30am and 12pm. Face to face appointments will take place after school on Tuesday 8th March and Wednesday 9th March. If you have not yet booked your time slot, please contact the school office.

In English, the children will be continuing their learning on performance poetry with Miss Wilson. They will be using their plans to write their own free verse poem on the theme of refugees. Children will apply all of their learning on the features and structure of poems.

Children will then compare these civilisations and explain which they would prefer to live in, using their understanding of these time periods to justify their answer.
In art, we will continue to study the Viking Jelling style of artwork. We will be applying our learning on sketching to produce a final piece of artwork inspired by this style. We will then self and peer assess to evaluate our work.
Our PE day next week will be on Wednesday due to our trip on Friday. yYour child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

RE: We will learn about why we think of Jesus as a saviour.
History/Geography: We will wrap up and complete our learning about the Romans by learning about Boudicca and the resistance of the Inceni tribe.
Science: We will identify why some circuits will not work to recap what is needed for a working circuit then we will have a go at designing our own switches.
PE: Monday and Friday- Mr Ault Hockey, Gymnastics and agility. Thursday- Swimming will continue until Easter.
PSHCE: We will look at the next part of our Health education and learn about managing our feelings and our friendships in a positive way and continue with our Heartsmart lessons- too much selfie isn’t healthy.
Music: We will continue to learn Ukulele.
German: We will learn about our classroom.

Welcome back to our Starling families. We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break. Can you believe we are half way through the year already!
Thank you so much for taking the time to enjoy sharing stories with your Starling at home. If your child has received new books recently that you think other children will enjoy and you are happy for them to be in school we would love to share them with the whole of Starlings class.
The children will continue to bring home a Read Write Inc book, a book bag book and a bedtime story each week. This provides them with a variety of familiar, new and challenging texts to read. Bedtime story books are to be enjoyed with an adult. Reading TO the children ensures that they experience the magic of a story coming to life and have a purpose and love of reading.
English
Starlings were asked to investigate a strange occurrence in the playground this week. We tiptoed out and found bones!! We thought about why they were there, who had left them and what animal they might have come from. Maybe when we start reading our new class text we will discover the answers to our questions.
Maths
In maths Starlings class are working on using the < (less than, smaller than) > (greater than, more than) and = (equal to) symbols.
In Religion we have been exploring Good News. We have discussed how we might share news and we thought about how we take photographs to remember lovely times we have experienced and how we might send these to families and friends. We also discussed good new stories in the bible and we remembered God’s beautiful creation, Jesus being born and Jesus rising on Easter Sunday.
In history we are going to be looking at Mary Anning and the impact she had not only as a palaeontologist but as an influential woman.
In Science, we continue to explore the topic of animals and humans. We will be looking at answering some of the questions we wanted to find the answer to before the holidays.
Reading
Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime story books. Please remember the importance of your child listening to YOU read during this time too.
RWI
Please refer to your child’s diary for information regarding the sounds that your child has been taught and also the titles of the books they will have at home.
Spellings
During the Spring term our spellings will be focused on the Year One Common Exception words. These are words that the children will come across frequently in both their reading and writing. We will complete a spelling quiz in class every Friday. Please use your spelling whiteboard to help you to learn your spellings each week. We will write your child's score in their diary each week. This will be written next to the spellings they have been tested on that day. This will be on the page of the previous weeks.

Our PE days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue. Can we also ask that your child has a drink bottle that is clearly named and contains only water. We also request that if your child wears trainers with laces they are able to independently retie them if they become undone otherwise can they please wear trainers with a Velcro fastening.
