Did you all enjoy the sunshine yesterday? What a beautiful day we had! William and Thomas were set sports challenges all day from their teachers so we had planking, sock throwing, 'keepie uppie' and basket ball challenges in the garden, followed by pizza for tea. It was great! I wonder what you all got up to, I hope you had fun.
A little outdoor maths activity for you to try:
Try making a pavement trail for yourselves and others using chalk. Include some mathematical elements in this trail. For example, ‘cross the shapes grid by only stepping on shapes with less than 3 sides.’ ‘As you jump on the hands count in the sequence.’ Only count on the multiples of 10, jump on the multiples of 5, what do you notice? ‘Can you make it through the number jumble by only stepping on even numbers?
I have attached some photos of what this could look like. If you don't have any chalk, let school know and we can leave some out for you in the entrance.

Swallows, I wonder what you would pack in your suitcase? The stranger carries only a suitcase as he leaves his home. In his suitcase is a cup and saucer and a picture of home. Why do you think he packed only those? Draw an outline of a suitcase. You can carry one photo and one object from your home; what will you take? Explain your choices.
A message from Mrs Powell
The definition of wise in the Oxford English Dictionary is ‘Having or showing experience, knowledge and good judgement’. When have you been wise, maybe you have been lost in a shop. This experience should have taught you always to stay near to the grown-up you are with, or should have led to you to learning exactly what to do if you got lost again. Being wise means learning from past experiences and carefully thinking about decisions that we make and things that we do now. What mistakes have you learnt from? I think we learn far more from the mistakes we make rather than the things that we get right!
Dear God Please help us to be wise. Help us to realize that there are consequences to everything that we do. Please help us to make good decisions that will work out best for ourselves and for other people. Amen

What a sunny day it is! Let's have a fabulous day in the sunshine today. I want you to just have fun and enjoy this glorious weather. If your grown ups do want you to do a little bit of work you can work on your spellings for 15 mins. The words are :
beautiful, school, difficult, children, really, pretty, great, again, every, busy.
You could learn these outside. Have you got chalk to write them on the path? Maybe you could take your paper and pens out and practise writing them in different colours. Test your grown ups on these words, see if they can spell them correctly?
We have lots of Science to look at this week still, all about aeroplanes.

A message from Mrs Powell
Today I am going to introduce you to a very special person called Theresa. She lived more than 140 years ago. She was born on 2 January 1873 and died on 30 September 1897, at the young age of 24. Her mother died when Theresa was just four years old, leaving her father with five children to look after. One of her sisters, called Mary, took over running the household, while her eldest sister, Pauline, took charge of telling the younger children about God. When she was 14, Theresa decided that she wanted to dedicate her life to God, so she became a nun (someone who goes to live with others who give their lives to God). Theresa was made a saint in 1925. A 'saint' is a person who is a great example to us because he or she lived a special life and/or had special gifts. Although Theresa didn’t have a very long life, she used every minute she had to care for other people. Her best-known saying is, ‘What matters in life is not great deeds, but great love.’ Theresa became known as someone who would show love to others by doing little things. Sometimes she gave flowers, sometimes she prayed, sometimes she showed love and attention to people who struggled with problems. Theresa knew that she wasn’t physically strong enough to carry out great deeds, but she made a big difference to people’s lives by the little things she did for them. Very often, though, it's the little things that have the greatest effect on people’s lives, the little things which show them someone cares.
Time for reflection
Close your eyes and think about a little thing someone has done for you that made you feel special or happy. It may have been a kind word, asking you to play with them or even giving you a special present. Decide to do something today that will make someone else feel special. Dear God Thank you for people who do things for me that make me feel happy and loved. Please help me to do something today to show someone that I care about them. Amen

It was lovely to hear that some of you watched our No Outsiders story "Odd Dog Out" being read on youtube. Hopefully you received the activities that link with this by email yesterday? Today's No Outsiders story is "Dogs don’t do ballet" by Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie, we have this one in school you may have seen it?

Whilst out walking or riding today you could ty this maths activiity:
Using the numbers on a road sign what is the largest number you can make? You can use a range of operations (add, subtract, times or divide) and combination of numbers. Younger children could add the numbers, older children could add and multiply using different combination of numbers (so the sign that says "Audlum A529" could become this calculation 5x2x9 or 52x9 or 5x29)

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.
Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”
The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”
The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”
We all have the opportunity to help create positive change. You might not be able to change the entire world, but at least you can change a small part of it, for someone. Break the big challenge down into smaller pieces and then take those one at a time – like one starfish at a time. Remember you can achieve anything!

I would like you to choose Odd Dog Out by Rob Biddulph today to read. There is a you tube link where you can listen to the story being read by Tom Hardy. Perhaps your Mum will like to watch this too! 
There are a selection of activities for you to choose from once you have listened to Tom Hardy reading you the story on you tube. I would love to see some of this work from you. I really hope that you enjoy this, as this story has a really important message. I wonder if you can let me know what you think the message of this story is?
My maths ideas this week are going to be linked to outdoor activity. Here is one for you to try:
Choose a form of exercise e.g. star jumps. Reception children could roll a dice, count the amount of dots and then do that amount of star jumps. Year 1 and 2 childern could roll two dice, add them together and then do that amount of star jumps. Year 3 and 4 could roll two dice, add them together and then multiply by 3 and then do that amount of star jumps. Year 5 and 6 could roll two dice, multiply them together and then divide by 4. Using the whole number in the answer, complete that many star jumps. Can you make up your own rules?
I have included the other year groups in case you have brothers and sisters that may want to play as well.
I would also like to give you 10 spellings this week to work with. Can you write them in different colours, with your tongue sticking out, in tiny letters, fancy letters, with your eyes shut...Can you write the word into a sentence? Can you see if you can make new words from the word? For example, if the word was write, you could have: wrote, written, writing. Can you find the opposite meaning of the word, a synonym of the word (a word with a similar meaning) So if I gave you the word hot, the opposite would be cold a synonym could be warm.

Hola Swallows
Just a little extra blog to show you a gorgeous photo that my friend sent to me this morning.
She was out on her horse ride yesterday in Manchester and she spotted these two beautful Swallow birds.
She stopped her horse, Tilly and took a photo of them for us. I have attached it to this blog. Look how beautiful they are, just like each and every one of you. How special! I had to share it with you.
I hope that you are having a lovely morning so far. My boys have had a lazy morning today and are currently sat watching the Disney film Cars. They have promised me that they will start their work as soon as it is finished without any complaining. Hmmmm what do you think Swallows? He he he

Happy Friday! The weekend is here. Yippee I hear your mums and dads calling!! You have been super stars this week, working so hard at home and showing Friendship. I wonder if anyone has got any Friendship ideas to share with me that you have created at home?
Our lessons today are continuing with our teachers who we are getting to know so well! The science one looks interesting, making insects using natural materials.

I also thought that you could have another challenge whilst out on your walk or bike ride.
Use car badges as a data handling exercise. Children, look at the badges on the cars that you see on your walk. Please think about an efficient way to record this. What can you conclude from your data/information? Can you say what the most common car out today was? What about the least popular? How many more Ford cars did you see then BMW's? Have a go at asking your grown ups questions about the information that you have collected. Can you think of another way to represent this data maybe in a tally chart or pictogram like the work from your home learning pack.

Louis Braille was born in France in 1809 and was three years old when he lost his sight in one eye. By the age of five, he was completely blind. At that time, there was no help available for blind people and many of them would end up begging for food on the streets. Louis’ parents didn’t want that to happen to their son, so they continued to educate him in every way possible. When Louis was 12 years old, he met an army captain who showed him a way of sending messages at night using raised dots and dashes. Louis saw the potential for a communication system for blind people and, by the age of 15, he had found 63 ways to use a six-dot cell in an area the size of a fingertip. In this way, he created Braille, a form of written language for blind people, which they can ‘read’ by feeling the raised dots of the Braille characters with their fingertips.
Let’s try to be people who have the courage to move forward, no matter what happens. At the same time, let’s remember that there are many people who can help us if we need to talk about our worries.

Happy Thursday, a chilly one right now! Hopefully it will warm up later today. How are you all? I hope you are all well, safe, happy and smiling as beautifully as ever. We are very busy at school planning for when everybody comes back together, there's lots to organise so that we can all stay safe. But for now Swallows, you stay at home with your families where you are very safe and we will wait until all of the year two's across England can return to school. I know how much some of you want to come back, my Thomas wants to see his teacher so much too. I want to see all of you also, we both miss you.
Did anyone try out the shape hunt when you were out walking or riding yesterday? Thomas, Will and I saw lots of circles and triangles on traffic signs. We spotted rectangular road names, cylinders on lamp posts and lots of interesting shapes on the reflections of the water against a wall. We thought that certain tree trunks look almost like a cylinder. What do you think? What did you see? Maybe you could spot shapes out on your walk today?
Today's idea is Bingo!
Play walking bingo. Ask your grown up to print a bingo card (https://www.template.net/designtemplates/free-printable-bingo-card/) All look for the numbers on your card whilst walking together. If you find a number that is on your bingo card, you can cross it off. Can you complete a line or get a full house? Look at house numbers, road signs, numbers on bus stops etc. Have fun and let me know who won!
Our Oak Academy lessons for today are continuing with fractions and The Firework Maker's Daughter. You will explore recounts today which is when you write about something that has already happened in the past tense. Remember our song? "Already happened, ed!" You have all written recounts before, we have written about our trip to The Liverpool Maritime Museum and you have written lots in our writing books about events that have already happened eg the dragons destroying our classroom and when Timothy and Tabitha swapped lives.

Squirrels are often seen hanging on birdfeeders, trying to grab as much food as they can. Sometimes they even hang upside down while they feed! Sometimes they fall off, but they soon come back again to try to get more! Often birds can’t get to the birdfeeders because the squirrels are already feeding from them! The poor birds have to wait, even though they are hungry! Sometimes they fly away and perch in the trees, watching the squirrels feed. When the squirrels have finished, then the birds can have their turn to feed, even though the seed and nuts are really put there for them. It could be that the squirrel is trying to keep the food for itself. It could be that the bird is challenging the squirrel for the food. It could be that they are sharing!
There are times in our lives when we all find it difficult to share! Christians believe that God has given us the world and everything in it - it is a gift from God that we are all to share with each other. Christians also believe that it is good to share what we have with others. We can share our possessions, food, money, friends, talents, even our love. Happy Wednesday to you all. How are you? I am currently having a hayfever attack! I am sneezing lots and coughing which is making it difficult for me to film my Wednesday morning hello! I am hoping that it will calm down later this morning and I will film a little message for you all then.

I have promised the boys that we will go out on our bikes this aftenoon and if they are good and don't argue...we might bake too. I'm not sure that will happen though as William and Thomas are having lots of arguments at the minute! It can be tricky being with the same people all day every day. I know how kind you are though so I am sure that you are showing Friendship to all your family members. Please keep your Friendship posters, poems, stories and photgraphs coming in in either by our sharing window, Twitter or email them to admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk. I really enjoy seeing what you are getting up to at home, it makes me smile. Even if it is a photo of you snuggled up watching the tele or playing, it doesn't have to be work.
I have some maths ideas for when you are out walking. They are saved on our home learning page called Walking Maths but I thought I'd put one on here for you each day to make your walk or bike ride more interesting.
SHAPE HUNT: What shapes can you find on your walk? Look for road signs, shapes in patterns on front doors, shapes in fencing. Maybe take a tick sheet out with you so your child can cross shapes off as they find them. Ask your grown up to print a 2d shape mat off from this link https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-n105-2d-shape-word-mat to help you to identify the shapes.
A message from Mrs Powell
In 1984, Chris Baines actually sent out an invitation to his friends asking them to meet him at 4 am. His birthday plan was to have all his guests listen to the dawn chorus together. The dawn chorus is the singing of many birds before dawn each day.
This all happens about an hour before sunrise. At this time of day, it is too dark for the birds to search for food, but also too dark for them to be spotted by predators. There is less background noise, too, so the air is still and sound carries for a greater distance. There is a sequence to the dawn chorus. Robins, blackbirds and thrushes start first, which may be because they have biggish eyes to see in the dark and because they like to look for worms. After a while, all the other birds join in.
Have you noticed the birds singing? I think it is lovely to think that we are all listening to the birds and enjoying their bird song even though we are apart.

Happy Tuesday morning. The sun is shining, I can hear the birds singing and the sky looks beautiful, fingers crossed that we have a lovely day.
I know that some of you will have listened to the news recently and have heard our Prime Minister, Borris, saying that maybe Reception, Y1 and Y6 can come back to school on June 1st. I was hoping that he would say Y2 so that I can see you all again however we have to do what he says as he has lots of scientists working with him, telling him the best way to keep us all safe. Hopefully, get your fingers and toes crossed, we can be together again for a short time in July. We will have to see what he says. I am not going anywhere though, so whenever we all come back together, I will be waiting to see your lovely, smiley faces. I have missed you so much.
Remember this week I am asking you to think about the Christian Value of FRIENDSHIP. Thank you to Isla who has written a gorgeous poem about what Friendship means to her for our sharing window. Could you show Friendship to somebody today? How? A smile, a cuddle (only people who live in your house!), a little job are all ways of showing that you care. Perhaps you could take a photo of this act of Friendship or design a poster showing what this Christian Value means to you? I listened to "You've Got A Friend In Me" from Toy Story yesterday to help me think about this, as all the toys in that film show lots of Friendship to each other, even Woody and Buz in the end! Maybe you could watch the film soon?
I have discovered that David Walliams, the famous children's author and judge on Britain's Got Talent, is reading his books on line each day at 11am. It is always a pleasure and a treat to listen to the actual author's voice as they read exactly as they intended the words to sound. Have a listen, it will be a lovely way to relax.

This story of Steven Bradbury highlights the benefits of sticking with it in the long run. You never know what might happen.
Steven Bradbury was an Australian speed skater. He had been to 3 Olympic games already - he hadn't won a medal. Over the past 12 years of training and racing he had suffered some horrific injuries, during which he nearly died. He was financially struggling and had to borrow money from his parents in order to survive.
In the 2002 games he was the oldest competitor in the event. People didn't think he stood a chance, including himself. He had managed to scrape through the heats but had what he describes as the best race on the way when he finished second in the semi-final. He realised he didn't have the raw speed of the younger racers so he employed a tactic of just hanging in there. This worked and got him to the Olympic final.
What can we learn from this? - Stick with it, who knows what might happen. - You can get a huge sense of satisfaction and a big boost from trying your best. - Just how much we can endure and overcome if we want to.
Bradbury trained for 12 years for the Olympics We can all benefit from his approach and learn his lessons if we get in there and have a go ourselves. Go on, go for it!

I hope that you all had a wonderful time celebrating VE day over the weekend. What fabulous weather we had! What did you get up to? We had a great social distancing party at home in the sunshine. Have you received your post card from school yet? I hope that it made you smile.
Our lessons this week continue with The Firemaker's Daughter and Fractions in Maths. We were going to start learning about Fractions just before we broke up from school so it will be the first thing that we start with when we are all back together. These lessons will help you to understand the basics.

Flowers
Have you planted your sunflower seed? All flowers are different and amazing, so, too, people are all different, but all wonderfully made. Just as flowers can brighten our day when we see them, so, too, each of us can brighten other people’s days by our care and our attitudes. We thank you, God, for the beauty of flowers. Giving flowers shows that we care. Flowers can brighten our day and fill our hearts with gladness. · Cook a 1945-style meal by following these recipes:
Most food was rationed during the war and often cooks had to get inventive with their recipes. Meat shortages meant things like Spam or corned beef hash became staple dishes, while carrots were used to sweeten cakes and biscuits in place of sugar. Other commonly-eaten dishes included the potato, cheese and onion-filled homity pie, supposedly first made by the Land Girls. And where would any British occasion be without scones?

On VE day itself join in with the celebrations:
· At 11am, a national two-minute silence will be held to reflect on the sacrifice of those who fought in the war.
· At 3pm, Britons are being invited to take to their doorsteps to raise a glass, cheer and clap during The Nation's Toast to the Heroes of World War Two. The official VE Day website reads that there'll be a chant of the phrase: "To those who gave so much, we thank you."
· A pre-recorded speech by the Queen will be broadcast at 9pm, the very moment her father, King George VI, addressed the people over radio on May 8 1945. It will form part of televised musical event VE Day 75: The People's Celebration on BBC One from 8pm.

Just over 80 years ago, the Second World War began. It was a huge war that involved most nations of the world. On 8 May 1945 at 3pm, Winston Churchill, the UK prime minister at that time, announced to the nation that the war in Europe was over. This meant an end to nearly six years of war that had cost the lives of millions of people and had destroyed families, homes and cities. Millions rejoiced at the news that Germany had surrendered, relieved that the intense strain of war was finally over. In towns and cities across the world, people marked the victory with street parties, dancing and singing. Can you imagine how it felt? What could you make today for a street party? My Gran Peggy told us that she danced all through the night as she had really missed dancing!
So, Swallows, lots of great ideas here for you to pick from. However you celebrate VE day tomorrow, I hope you all have a wonderful time together with your families. Buenas Dias Swallows
What a beautiful Wednesday morning we have woken up to. How are you all today? We all have hayfever and so we have been suffering a little bit recently with sneezes and sore eyes. Nerver mind! Yesterday, we had a lovely suprise. We went out for a walk and visited a pond that we haven't been to for a while and guess what we saw in the water? Thousands and thousands of tadploes! They were so cute. William and Thomas spent ages looking at them swimming and deciding where in the pond they liked to live. Thomas found lots underneath all the pond weed so he decided that tadpoles must like dark places, just like our woodice did in our last Science investigation. William was wondering how exactly they turn into frogs. so today, we are going to explore the life cycle of a frog together. Maybe you would like to learn about this also? Next time you are at a pond, ask your adult if you can have a look for any tadploes. They are great to watch. I found it very calming. Remember never to go near water without an adult and always ask them if you can take a look.

We are going to bake this afternoon to get ready for our VE day pic nic. The boys helped me to put the bunting up yesterday on the trees at the bottom of our drive, the village is looking red, white and blue already. I saw a handy tip on the internet earlier. If you have any old Aldi shoping bags, they have the Union Jack flag on so you could cut that out and use it to decorate your home or garden. Please ask a grown up first before you start chopping up bags, especially as you need to be very careful when using scissors. I have uploaded a Union Jack flag for you to print out as well as a KS1 reading comprehension based on VE day that you may like to do at some point over the next few days.

What did the world look like on VE day? What were people eating? Over the past few months, you might have had to eat something different because shopping is a little more complicated. What food did people eat on VE day? Lots of you have been growing your own fruits and vegetables; I’m growing tomatoes, herbs and strawberries and waiting to see if my peppers will grow! During the war, food was rationed so people grew as much food as they could. Another one of my Gran’s favourite foods was liver and she would make me and my brothers and sisters eat it all the time because she said it was good for us! We really didn’t like that but I like the ideas of some of these war time food; my Gran Peggy would have loved the liver casserole!
Here's some of the popular foods eaten during World War II and the sort of dishes that featured in VE Day celebrations. Do you fancy trying any of them?
· Dripping sandwiches with beef fat
· Lord Woolton pie (cauliflower, potatoes, parsnips, oats)
· Pork faggots with onion gravy and mash

Buenas Dias Swallows
The sun is high in the sky and shining beautifully, it is going to be a gorgeous day I can feel it. I have just been in the garden hanging my washing out, it was lovely to hear the birds all singing to each other. We have filled our bird feeders recently and last night, Thomas put the left over bread onto the bird table and so we are getting more and more little birds visiting our garden. Actually, they are not all little. Yesterday when I got home from school, there twere two huge pigeons arguing over the bread! They were making lots of noise it was funny to watch.
It was lovely talking to so many of your grown ups yesterday either on the phone or in person at school when they bobbed in to drop art work off or pick a home learning pack up. Thankyou to everyone who has brought art work in for our sharing window, it is loking great. Remember to send anything into school that you would like me to display. There is a box in the entrance to school for you to drop your pictures in. I love to see your work Swallows, I always feel very proud of you as I am blue tacking it up.

We will be focusing our blog on Thursday around VE day activities. I know that some children from school have been making bunting ready to celebreate the ending of WW2 Friday. I am getting excited as my lane are planning lots of lovely things (all for us to do in our own gardens) I need to get baking! We are all wearing red, white and blue clothes and listening to war time music on Radio Northwich. I can't wait! Fingers crossed that the rain stays away....

I love this story. Do you think Mr George likes cabbage now? Can you imagine how he felt? Victory in Europe (VE) Day marked the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. Friday 8th May 2015 was the official 70th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day is another day that many people will never forget as it marked the end of a terrible war in Europe, though there was still fighting in Japan until later that year. Mr George’s memorable day was one of great danger followed by relief at still being alive. This is one type of memorable day although hopefully no one present will experience such a day! My Gran Peggy used to tell me when she had her very first orange as you couldn’t get them during the war; she used to make lots of marmalade as oranges became her favourite fruit! Mr George’s story reminds us that we all have special days that will stay with us forever. We don’t know when they will come or what they will be.

Buenas Dias Swallows
I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend. Did you manage to see the butterlfies being released on Twitter? If not, ask your grown up if you can watch. Thomas helped me, they were beautiful. They didn't fly out of the basket for ages, we had to wait and wait! They stayed in the front garden for most of the day, each time I went out I could see them sitting on a leaf however when I checked at tea time, they had gone, flown off on an adventure. Talking of adventures, I finished rwading our story on Twitter last night. What adventures the children have had in the Enchanted Wood!
A little challenge: I have asked if you can desgin a new front cover for the story. Maybe draw your favourite characters in an exciting new land or the slippery slip or Dame Washalot's water running down the Faraway Tree? So many characters to choose from, you could include them all! We have a box in the entrance to school for you to pop any work in that you would like us to display in our sharing window. I'd love to see some, I'm in school today. Or you could draw/paint a picture of our butterflies and caterpillars for the sharing window?

Good morning! This week we are going to think about V.E day. I’m going to tell you little stories that my Granny Peggy told me; she lived in London during the war and my Grandad was an RAF pilot. First of all, I want you to think about a day you will always remember, happy or sad. A birthday, a family event, something you shared with friends. Is there a special food that reminds you of that day? My niece Edith is now 3 and I was lucky enough to visit her in hospital when she was a few hours old. I remember that gorgeous feeling, how hot the hospital was and helping my sister eat the chocolate I had brought for her! What special memory do you have? What reminds you of that? Some memorable days are happy and some are sad. Each of us will have our own experiences and our own reactions to them. There are as many different sorts of memorable days as there are different sorts of people.

Happy 1st of May! A new month, the sun is shining, we have the weekend and I have 28 fabulous Swallows that I am so proud of. This is a good day
It was brilliant to see some of you yesterday on my walk to the post box and outside of school. It made Mrs Elson and I have HUGE smiles all night! Listen out for the postman/postlady today or on Monday as something special is on its way to you right now...!
I have started a window in school called "Our Sharing Window" that will celebrate and display any art work, letters, poems that you would like us to put up. It is a great way of us being together even though we are apart. I have left a box in the entrance to school for you to drop anything into if you are passing school, it would be lovely to display the wonderful work that you are doing at home.
Today's work continues with our character descriptions and position and direction work in Maths. Thomas and I are a day behind you as I was in school yesterday so Thomas didn't want to do it without me! I will share our character description with you on Monday when we have completed it.

I have made cakes this week and I'm proud of me! I am not a baker at all, but I experimented and had great fun. The first ones were too buttery as I hadn't whisked the mixture properly but our second attempt were yummy! Have you baked/cooked anything? Send me some photos on Twitter so that I can see. Hi, how are you all today? I am in school at the moment with our magic fairy. It is absolutely brilliant to see her, she is asking how you all are. We have been chatting about how much we miss you and which lovely things we can do when we are all back together.
Have you been enjoying the English and Maths lessons? Thomas and I really enjoyed learning about the features of a character description and we are excited about using our expanded noun phrases to write our own description on Friday with the English teacher. Let's carry on with those today, I think Miss Emms will teach us more about noun phrases today. Did you remember to use a comma inbetween the adjectives? In Maths, we will be looking at directions. We were going to explore giving directions at Delamere however we will have fun with this directing each other around the playground back in school. We might even toast marshmallows together! This is the second time that I am writing this as I just clicked 'save' and it all disappeared! Sorry!
How are you all today? I know that we are all missing our friends and families. I drove over to Manchester yesterday to do my Mum and Dad's shaopping for them. It was brilliant to actually see them instead of over a video call although I had to talk to them from their drive way and it felt so strange not giving them a hug. These all all things that we are having to get used to now, we are learning a new way to be which can be difficult to understand and accept for children. I know that my boys are desperate to go to the park wih their friends and Thomas says his teacher is much better than me! Cheeky!
Even though I want to be back to normal, I am apprectiating not rushing around in the mornings, spending all of this time with my boys and be able to relax in the garden and enjoy the great weather that we have had. I have also loved getting to know lots of neighbours that live on my lane. We are planning a "social distancing party" to celebrate VE day on 8th May. We are decorating our houses in red, white and blue to symbolise the colours on our Union Jack flag, having pic nics in our own gardens and listening to music from World War Two times. VE day celebrates the offical end of WW2 that lasted from 1939 - 1945. Below is a link to the Britsh Legion site that explains more about this special day in our histroy. I hope that you are all well. We did see some lovely sunshine yesterday after all which was great. What did you all get up to? Fingers crossed for more sunshine today...
Thomas and I did the lessons yesterday that I put on here for you. We really enjoyed reading the Firework Maker's Daughter and using our detective inference skills as well as exploring the shapes in Maths. We learnt what a 'slogan' is and Thomas enjoyed listening out for more examples on the tele later that day eg "Every little helps" and "Save money, live better". See if you can work out which supermarket these come from? Can you find any more slogans and tweet them to me?

I hope that you have had a lovely weekend. The sunshine has disappeard however it is dry so we can all still play outside today. Have you seen Twitter? If not, take a look this moring. Our buterflies are doing really well, just waiting for one more to emere from its chrysalis. They have beautiful red and brown symmetrical patterns on their wings. Maybe you'd like to draw/paint a picture of a Painted Lady Butterfly today or this week and post it on Twitter for me to see? Below is a link to some images of them. I have made a nectar of sugar and water for them to drink and gain energy from as well as some fruit. When they first emerge, they flutter their wings to dry them out for a few minutes then they sort of bounce as they try to fly. It is gorgeous to see, I managed to film one yesterday, I was there just at the right time, it is on Twitter for you.

You will be really good at the reading one as we have looked at lots of inference questions in class. This is where the answer might not be obvious in the text, you have to think why..... Remember the "great white female with her magic wand letting the small humans cross the road into a huge building where they stayed for most of the day?" We were detectives and realised that she was a Lollypop Lady crossing school children over a busy road into school! Have a go, I'm sure you will be great detectives again today. There is also a super shape activity for you to try.

The IseeReasoning Maths ones are fabulous as well as the wriitng ideas under the Year 2 tab. What ever you do today, be kind, have fun, use your manners and know that Mrs Elson and I are thinking about you always and miss you more and more each day. Our magic fairy has sent you a message today!
Hello lovely Swallows,
I hope that you are all well. I have been busy planting lots of seeds and watching them turn into beautiful seedlings on my windowsill. I ve now planted some of them into pots outside with the help of my magic fairy Lola. Although Swallows, as you know Lola dog is a bit cheeky and she is trying to eat my seedlings! I'm wondering how all your sunflower seeds are growing?
Swallows I ve also been busy listening to Mrs Rice reading the magic faraway tree, which was amazing and reminded me how much fun we had sharing all those adventures from the story. I'm enjoying reading in my garden. I'm finding lots of stories I ve not read yet. I wonder what you are enjoying reading?

How are you all today? Another sunny day! We are having such beautiful weather, this is something to be very thankful for during our tricky time away from school. Imagine if it was raining every day! This is so much better for all of us. Thomas and Will have been doing some of their work in the garden and then having an ice pop as a treat afterwards! I thought that today we could have a look at creating lists in sentences using commas and writing commands as well as looking at the UK in a Geography task. These are both things that we have looked at in school so you can show off to your grown ups!

News flash...
I have been looking at our fury friends this morning and one is emerging out of its chrysalis! It is the one that didn't attach to the lid in the chrysalis station, it has been inside its pupa lay on the floor of the net. However this morning I can see two antenna and part of the chrysalis on the floor. I will watch really closely today for more developments. Look out on Twitter for the photos.

Another sunny day for us to all enjoy. Remember to put your suncream on. I had such an adventure with Thomas on his bike yesterday. We went on a different route and I allowed Thomas to lead the way as he had already done that route a few days earlier with his Daddy. I felt a little anxious as I did not know where we were going to come out but I didn't let Thomas know that! He was my tour guide for the afternoon. We passed some really interesting locks along the riverand Thomas explained to me how they worked, a little waterfall, walked through some beautiful woods and two huge farms finally coming out near the big blue bridge next to my village. It was so exciting to discover new places, to try something different and not stick to the usual route.
Swallows, please always stay with your adults when you are out and about exploring, don't wander off!

Still no news on the caterpillars, they are in their pupa stage and being very still and quiet. I ckeck them many times each day hoping to see a beautiful butterfly but not yet. I will tweet as soon as anything happens.

I have a little confession! I temporarily lost our story The Enchanted Wood but don't worry, I have found it again. Phew! That's why I haven't read any for a while. It was on William's book shelf, I must have tidied it away without realising, silly me! I will read some more this week. I read a story for Owls class too last week which was lovely.
Has anyone tried any of the maths recipes? Please send me some photos on Twitter of anything that you do or email them into school. I really love seeing what you are getting up to, it makes me smile and so happy to see your faces!
We have got access to some new, great online lessons. I have found this one that I think would be gorgeous for you to have a go at. We would have been looking at the artists Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long this term, who both use nature and the environment to creat 3D art. This lesson looks at the work of Andy Goldsworthy so this is perfect for us.

I hope that you have all had a lovely, relaxing Easter holidays and enjoyed the fabulous weather that we have been blessed with. The boys and I have been in the garden lots and making friends wiht horses on our bike rides each day. Mrs Elson and I are missing you more and more. We just can not wait to see your little faces again. I have put lots of writing and maths on the website for your grown ups to help you with. If you click on the 'home learning' pages under 'classes' there are some great writing ideas for Y2 that Thomas and I have been exploring. I have also popped some maths there called I See Reasoning. There are lots and lots of tasks on there to be getting on with, you will enjoy those as they are really visual. Ask your grown ups to print them out for you. Or you could keep learning your 2,5 and 10 times tables today. Rememebr to use the division facts as well.
I have also uploaded some cooking with maths ideas onto that page. Here is one that I thought you might like to try. Maybe you could tweet me the photos?
Edible dominoes
Make edible dominoes using this recipe from Sainsbury’s https://recipes.sainsburys.co.uk/recipes/baking/domino-biscuits You will need to weigh with grams and measure volume with tablespoons. 1 tablespoon is 15ml, can you convert the amount of milk into ml? What about if you made a double batch? Can you double the other ingredients too? You have to roll out the dough until it is 3mm thick. Use a ruler to check.
Last of all cook them for 10 minutes. If you put the dominoes in at 3:30 what time would they be ready? What would that time look like on an analogue clock? Young children need to practise subitising (instantly recognising the number of objects in a small group without counting them) so put the smarties into a variety of arrangements on the biscuits instead of sticking to the classic dice formations in the picture. Ask older children to think systematically. If you had a different colour for each number, how many of one colour would you need for all the dominoes with a 6 on? With a 5 on? Etc. Can you use one answer to calculate the next answer more quickly? How?
Play classic dominoes to practise number recognition and matching. Play again but this time, instead of matching numbers, place dominoes touching so that the total where they touch is always 6? Can you make a list of all the possible combinations in order? Add the numbers on each domino and sort them by total. Can older children work out how many dominoes there will be for each total before checking practically. What if the dominoes could have 7 or 8 on them?

So, this is our Easter holidays! It will be a strange Easter holidays this year won't it? I am in school today, enjoying the lovely sunshine outside. I am going to add some ideas that you can do over the next two weeks before you continue with your packs. Take a break from your home learning packs for the next two weeks as you have all been doing really well. I will keep you updated on our caterpillars, I posted a video on Twitter this weekend as they have gone into a J shape now and are dangling from the lid of their pot, they are getting ready to go inot their Pupa stage. It is very exciting to watch! I will also keep reading our story, we are nearly at the end now, only two chapters to go. I have really enjoyed reading this for you and each time, I imagine that you are all sat on the carpet with me. Thomas sometimes puts his teddies out for me to pretend they are you!
Have a lovely couple of weeks Swallows. I hope that the Easter Bunny comes with lots of lovely Easter eggs and treats. Enjoy being outside and with your families. I bet that you have all grown lots and will look so tall and grown up when I see you again.
