Hello Everyone!
Welcome back to Swallows class blog.
Praise Book: Jayden B Top Table: Ella
What an amazing start to this half term we have had! Mrs Elson and I have been so impressed with the children's fantastic attitudes towards their learning. We have enjoyed our first Cricket PE lesson with Andy, learnt the first song from our Christmas production, had a fantastic History focus day and enjoyed a whole day of active Maths.
We are looking forward to another week of being busy little bee’s next week. Please take a look at what we will be learning below.
English
Our English work will continue to focus on the beautiful story ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ this week. Swallows will create and perform their own firework poems, sort information into subheading and write complex sentences using a range of conjunctions.
Maths
Our Maths work will focus on adding and subtracting two 2 digit numbers this week. We will continue to focus on our times tables during our arithmetic lesson’s.
Read Write Inc
Please check your child's diary to see which group they are currently working in. Please remember that the children sometimes need to repeat sounds/books in order to develop fluency and understanding. If you child has remained on the same colour reading book, this is not a problem. It just means that they need to really focus on using speedy Fred in their head to read at a faster pace.

Hello Swallows families and welcome to our weekly blog! We have had another super week of learning in Swallows Class ?
Mrs Elson and I continue to be proud of all our Swallows learners as they continue to try their best and work hard in their lessons. We have been super scientists, musicians, writers, mathematicians, problem solvers and much more this week.
Thank you so much for taking the time to enjoy sharing stories with your Swallow at home this week. The children will continue to bring home a Read Write Inc book, a book bag book and a bedtime story each week. This provides them with a variety of familiar, new and challenging texts to read. Bedtime storybooks are to be enjoyed with an adult. Reading TO the children ensures that they experience the magic of a story coming to life and have a purpose and love of reading.
English
In our English lessons next week, we will continue to explore our class text ‘Troll Swap’ by Leigh Hodgkinson. We will continue to explore character and write a diary in the role of Tabitha. We will focus on expanding our vocabulary, seeing if we can use exciting adjectives to add detail to our sentences.
Maths
Our Maths learning will focus on addition and subjection next week. We will be exploring number facts and fact families, comparing numbers and finding related facts.

Please see below for details of our new sounds and the texts we have been reading in our Read Write Inc groups this week. To support your child’s progress, it would help if they read and spelt words containing each sound at home.

Swallows Weekly Blog – 24.6.21
Hello Swallows and welcome back to our class blog.
We have had another fantastic week of learning in Swallows class this week. We enjoyed our first trip of the year to Delamere forest. We played games, built dens, sat in hammocks, splashed through streams and even did a little bit of yoga in the forest. Swallows represented our school brilliantly and made many magical memories together. I wonder if your Swallow could teach you how to play the river bank game, show you how to spot woodland habitats or take you on a journey to the most beautiful stream.
Swallows enjoyed showing what they know in our Summer term quizzes this week. We are looking forward to our class sports day tomorrow. Please remember to come to school wearing your PE uniform and trainers.
Please see your diary for this week’s spellings. Our next quiz will be on Friday 2nd July 2021.

Swallows Weekly Blog – 18.6.21
Hello Swallows and welcome back to our class blog.
Wow! What a busy week we have had!
Thank you so much for persevering with our tricky spellings this week. I am amazed by how many of you chose to use our new and exciting vocabulary in your writing this week. Focusing on spelling topic based vocabulary often gives the children the confidence to use more adventurous word choices independently in their writing. I am very proud of you all for writing such amazing adventure stories.
Our Maths learning focused on multiplication this week. We made and described arrays and represented equal groups using both pictures and objects. Please continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars to learn your times tables.
Our reading focused on clarifying vocabulary and inferring meaning this week. We answered comprehension style questions and used the text to explain how we know we are right. Please encourage your Swallow to refer to the text when answering questions about what they are reading at home.
Please see your diary for this week’s spellings. Our next quiz will be on Friday 25th June 2021.

Swallows class will visit Delamere Forest on Monday 21st June. We will be going on a forest walk to explore habitats and build dens. We will splash in the stream, hug a tree and enjoy team games in the beautiful forest setting.
Please ensure that you are in school for 8:30 on Monday morning. We will return at approximately 4pm.
The children need to wear old clothes including tracksuit bottoms to protect their legs, wellies and a waterproof coat. Please also ensure that you apply sun cream before coming to school in the morning.
The children can bring their own lunch in a named carrier bag which can be disposed of when finished. No packed lunch bags or boxes please. Mrs Macey will prepare pre-ordered school lunch bags which contain a small drink. It is important that the children bring an additional, named water bottle to drink throughout the day.
Wishing you all a lovely, happy and safe weekend. I am SO excited for Monday!

We have loved starting whole class, shared reading lessons again this week. We are completing 3 whole class reading session’s each week now in addition to our Read Write Inc learning. We are reading the interesting book ‘Above and Below’ by Hakako Clulow.
Our new Read Write Inc sounds are /ea/- cup of tea, /oi/ - spoil the boy and /a_e/ - make a cake.
Spelling
Our Read Write Inc Spelling lessons have focused on the or sound spelt a before l and ll.
Here are our spellings for this week. You will also find a copy of these spellings in your reading diary.
Writing
In writing we have been exploring our class text ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’. We enjoyed changing adjectives into adverbs and used them to describe how owls and fireworks move. We also learnt how to use commas to list adjectives in a description of the characters from the story.
Maths
Our Maths work was focused on subtraction this week. We solved lots of tricky problems using number lines, Dienes and the column method to help us. We also learnt how to use the Bar Model to help us to solve missing number problems.
Art
In Art, we have been looking at the artist Sue Newham and analysing her use of colour and line. Next week we will use her artwork as inspiration for our own piece of art which will be displayed around school.
Homework
Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings for 5-10 minutes each day. Please remember to sign your child’s diary each time they read and let us know what page they are up to.
Our PE days this half term are Thursday and Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember to only send your child in laces if they can tie them independently.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school admin email address or telephone.

Date: 11th Mar 2021 @ 10:04pm
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to our weekly blog. You will find our homework tasks, class announcements and learning overview here each week.
Swallows have had a wonderful first week back in school. Mrs Elson and I have loved having a classroom full of smiles and giggles again. We could not be prouder of the enthusiastic, SUPER learners that you all are.
Curriculum
We have been celebrating National Science Week this week with a focus on ‘innovation’. We learnt about how crayons are made and all about the Crayola inventors Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith. We learnt about the Mars ‘Perseverance’ Rover mission and designed our own Mars Rover. We investigated the best material to make a parachute for a teddy and designed our very own machines from recycled materials.
In worship, we have been celebrating being back together and learnt all about the 17 ‘Global Goals’. We also enjoyed listening to a lovely ‘Open the Book’ story called ‘Bread meat and stinky feet’.
We completed our Read, Write, Inc assessments this week so a sticker will be put into diaries with information about our new groups and learning focus.
Our writing work has focused on punctuation this week. We have been writing sentences using capital letters, full stops, commas and question marks. We are looking forward to starting a new unit of work focusing on the beautiful story ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ next week.
Our Maths lessons have focused on addition and subtraction this week. We also had lots of fun completing our 4-a-day challenge each day. Next week, we will focus our Maths learning on exchanging and adding three one digit numbers.
Reminders:
- Please ensure that your book bag is in school every day.
- We now have PE on Thursday and Friday.
- Until the Easter break, you can choose whether your child wears either their school uniform or their PE uniform (school t-shirt, school jumper/school hoody, plain black or navy joggers/leggings, trainers) as long as it follows our school uniform policy. Children may wear trainers every day during this time as long as they are able to independently tie their laces or wear Velcro trainers.
Homework
Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables for 5-10 minutes each day. We have put your Times Tables Rock Stars login details in your diary this week.

Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Eco
You may remember before half term, Mrs Brennan asked for your help with our Eco campaign. You were all fantastic at making posters, designing logos and making projects out of plastic bottles. However, she still needs your help!
We still need as many children as possible to complete the following 2 tasks:
- Task 1: Carry out a 2-day single use plastic audit at home
- Task 2: Interview an older person to ask them about their thoughts on if the amount of litter is increasing?
There are templates attached to today’s blog to help you to complete these remaining tasks. If you could then bring your completed audits and interviews into school or email to admin that would be amazing and would really help towards our Eco-Schools Campaign.

Have a brilliant day Swallows and don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with your learning today on School Spider. If you get an adult to sign your reading diary each time you read, you will still be able to collect your raffle tickets when we are back in school.
We will have our own book club on Zoom this week so please have your recommendations ready.
Read Write Inc
Instructions for how to find your RWI learning for today can be found on our English PowerPoint. Here is the link to the Read Write Inc home page on YouTube. It might help to add this as a favourite so that you can quickly find your Read Write Inc learning each day. Please remember that the website updates at 9:30 each day. You may notice that the sounds will start to repeat soon. The children revisit sounds many times when we are teaching Read Write Inc in school. We want to encourage fluency. We want the children to be able to read a text containing each sound at speed, without the need to Fred Talk. In order to achieve this, the children need to see each sound several times. Please continue to focus on the spelling, red word and hold a sentence videos.

Whichever number you roll or pull out of the pot, do the exercise for 30 seconds.

Friday 12th February
Hello everyone. We think you have worked so hard with your remote learning this half term so as a little treat and a big thank you here are some lovely activities for you to choose from today. You do not need to complete all of these activities. Just choose the ones which look the most fun to you.
We would like you to start with Mrs Powell’s worship then complete your Science lesson.
Then the choice is yours! Perhaps these will give you some nice ideas to do over the half term holiday too.
Worship
Please click on the link for Mrs Powell’s worship today. Mrs Powell has two lovely stories to share with you today.

Den Building
Build a den either inside (or even outdoors if we are lucky enough to have a warm, dry day) You could use blankets, sheets, cushions, old boxes, chairs. Could you put your teddy bear in there and a book?
Draw with Rob

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt
While you are out on your daily walk, why not look out for the following things and tick them off when you see them. There is a large copy of the sheet attached to the blog.
Puppet show
•Make up your own story to act out or you could use one of your favourite stories instead
•Make your own puppet characters – these could be sock, stick or finger puppets
•You could even make your own puppet theatre out of a cereal box
•Perform your story using your puppets for your family
Obstacle course
You don’t need any fancy equipment. Just get creative with the things you have already got at home or in your garden. E.g.
- Balance a potato on a spoon
- Balance a cushion on your head
- Jump over a skipping rope/piece of string, pair of tights
- Use rolled up socks as cones and run in and out of them
- Keepie uppies with rolled up socks
Lego building challenge
How many of these objects could you make using your Lego?
Don’t worry if you don’t have any Lego, could you make these using different materials that you could find around your house e.g. Empty toilet roll holders, cereal boxes, plastic bottles etc.
Make A Glitter Jar
Have some fun creating your very own glitter jar – fill it with water and whatever you have around the house then shake it and let your mind calm as you watch everything float to the bottom.
Art – Can you make your own view finder?
Are you feeling creative and outdoorsy today? Why not have a go at creating your own view finder with Miss Gillam today. Use your view finder to help you to bite off a measurable chunk of a landscape to draw. This can be anywhere from your back yard to your garden or even the view from your balcony. All you will need is a piece of paper, a pencil and some string. Don’t forget to share your masterpiece with your family, our school Twitter page and in your next class Zoom call.
Maths
Let’s make our walk today a little more interesting, time to play ‘Walking Bingo!’
Visit https://www.template.net/design-templates/free-printable-bingo-card/
And print off a bingo card to take with you on your next walk. Search for the numbers on your card on houses, signs, bus stops....If you find a number on you card, you can cross it off. I wonder if you can get a line or even a full house?
Or, perhaps you could make your own number pavement trail using chalk?
Build a structure using marshmallows and spaghetti
Art
Can you create your own ‘Bottle Moment’? This is a lovely, creative drawing competition.
Story - ‘One Hundred Steps’ by Sir Captain Tom Moore
This is a beautiful story written by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who we remember for raising money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is an important message of resilience and optimism, just when we need it most. It’s a book about adventure, family, hope and what we can achieve when we work together. This will help to remind us of Sir Tom, who sadly passed away last week, and of the kindness and courage we require in these unprecedented times. Please follow the link to ‘One Hundred Steps’:
