Safer Internet Day
Today we are going to celebrate #SaferInternetDay which aims to raise awareness and make the internet a safer and better place for all.
As we are all on this remote learning journey, we are probably spending a lot more time on the internet and so knowing how to keep ourselves safe is more important than ever!
Here are some internet safety tasks that you may wish to complete today:
- Watch Detective Digiduck as he discovers that the information he finds on the internet might not always be true.
https://www.childnet.com/resources/digiduck-stories/detective-digiduck
- Make your own Digiduck poster explaining how you can stay safe online – you can use the template attached to our blog or design your own.
- Sometimes being online becomes too much and it is important to take a minute, switch devices off and talk to a grown up or do something calming and relaxing. This video might help you:
Please share your posters and storyboards with us on Twitter using the hashtag #SaferInternetDay
Have a brilliant day Swallows and don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with your learning today on School Spider. I will see you at 9:20 for our Zoom call this morning. Please have a piece of work that you are proud of ready to share with your friends at the end if you would like to.

We are very excited to be taking part in a fantastic award winning #EcoschoolsAtHome campaign open to 30 schools in Cheshire West! By taking part our school could win one of 3 litter picking kits worth £770. This challenge will help us to keep our Eco Green Flag Award for the coming years.
Below are ways in which you at home could help us to win this challenge.
· Draw a ‘Don’t drop litter’ poster and display in a window at school or at home
· Upcycle a plastic bottle into something new
- Deliver a short(remote) presentation on the danger of litter to wildlife to the rest of their school or family
· Design a new anti-littering slogan and logo for fast food, soft drinks or PPE litter
· Interview an older person to ask them about their thoughts on if the amount of litter is increasing. (perhaps via video call from home and the findings put into a document)
Have a wonderful day Swallows and don’t forget to let us know how you are getting on with your learning today on School Spider. I will see you at 9:20 for our Zoom call this morning.

Gorgeous little Teddy is 1 today! Happy Birthday to our lovely Teddy Tedster.

Read Write Inc
Instructions for how to find your RWI learning for today can be found on our English PowerPoint. Here is the link to the Read Write Inc home page on YouTube. It might help to add this as a favourite so that you can quickly find your Read Write Inc learning each day. Please remember that the website updates at 9:30 each day. You may notice that the sounds will start to repeat soon. The children revisit sounds many times when we are teaching Read Write Inc in school. We want to encourage fluency. We want the children to be able to read a text containing each sound at speed, without the need to Fred Talk. In order to achieve this, the children need to see each sound several times. Please continue to focus on the spelling, red word and hold a sentence videos.

PE –
For today’s fitness challenge I would like you to have a go at ‘Jack Jack’s Super Shapes’ challenge. It's your turn to shapeshift like Jack-Jack – he can transform his body! Can you lead everyone in a shapeshifting routine?

ECO
We hope that you have fun making these with your families.
Thank you for sharing your work with me yesterday, I am looking forward to seeing your work on our homework pages again and being able to provide you with some feedback on your learning again today.
Have a brilliant day Swallows and I will see you at 9:20 for our Zoom call this morning. Please have a piece of work that you are proud of ready to share with your friends at the end if you would like to.

Please spend some time completing some of our 5-a-day activities today. I recommend using these activities to break up tasks throughout the day. Perhaps you could complete a little dance in between your writing tasks today? As I want you to keep calm but also keep moving, I recommend the ‘Time-2-Chill’ videos for breaks during learning time. Perhaps you could then reward yourself for completing the lesson by completing one of the more energetic ‘Fitness’ videos.

Please see the talking Power point video linked below.
Here is the link to the Oak Academy video mentioned in the PowerPoint. Uploading the video to the PowerPoint was interfering with the sound quality, so I thought a link might be best today.

Swallows - Tuesday 26th January 2021, by Miss Gillam
Date: 26th Jan 2021 @ 7:54am
Tuesday 26th January 2021
Hello and welcome back to Swallows class blog.
Did you have that special proud feeling yesterday? Were you able to orally re-tell the story of Saint George and the Dragon? Did you log in to Times Tables Rock Stars and choose your rock star name? Did you create a special poem thinking about our Christian value of respect? I just loved seeing what you have been getting up to on School Spider. Thank you for sharing your work with me, Swallows.
Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or tell have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages. It is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch.
Maths – Can I make the same amount? Please see the talking Power point video linked below. Please don’t worry that the videos appear to be a little bit longer. This is because the White Rose video is now embedded onto the PowerPoint. I hope this helps by having it all in one place. In case you want to open the video on a separate device or in a new tab, I have also put the link to this video below.
Here is a link to the video shown during our PowerPoint today:
Times Tables
I was planning to introduce Times Tables Rock Stars to the children in the first week of January. We would have had some sessions using it in school so that I could then have sent the log in details home with the children to use as part of their weekly Maths homework, which is in line with our Key Stage Two classes. However, the National Lockdown prevented this from happening.
As we do not have a confirmed date for the children to return to school, I have set the children up on this system for them to use at home if you wish. The children can practise the times tables that I have set for them (these will predominantly be 2's, 5's and 10's in Y2) using a devise. As they play, they can earn coins and make their way up the leader board. This is a fun, engaging and interactive way for the children to learn their times tables.
If you would like your child's log in details, please contact the school office via the admin address and they will email them across to you. Ideally, I would have explained how this works with the children and they would have had time in class to navigate the game with me in the classroom. Therefore, you may wish to wait until we are back in school so that I can explain it to the children in detail.

Have a BRILLIANT day Swallows and don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with your learning today. I would love to see even more learning uploaded to the homework section of school spider today. Please remember that if you want to privately upload your work, you need to select the green ‘Upload your homework’ button which is located in the top right hand corner of the screen on most devices. The orange buttons which say ‘Add image’, ‘Add a file’ and ‘Add a YouTube video’ are for posting to the homework discussion. All of Swallows class can see this. When you upload your work, you can only attach 1 file to each home work task set. For this reason, you will need to photograph both pages of your maths work together and upload as one attachment. I will still be able to see your work, don't worry. I will explain all of this during our Zoom call this morning.
See you on Zoom at 9:20.

Q
Hello and welcome back to Swallows class blog.
It is Monday again already! Did you have a nice weekend? Did you get to play in the snow this weekend?
I hope you are relaxed, rested and ready for another busy week of home learning. Today, we are launching our brand new ‘Homework’ section of our School Spider website. Please have a go at uploading some of your work today. This is a private upload and it will allow me to mark your work. I will talk you through how to use this new tool during our Zoom call at 9.20am.
Maths – Maths – Can you select money? Please see the link to our talking PowerPoint below. Please pause the video to complete each activity. Just like last week, I have embedded the White Rose video onto our PowerPoint. This should mean that you do not need to leave the video. As the PowerPoints are such large documents to download, we feel it would be best for everyone to access their learning via the YouTube link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPxtPosb6Ho&feature=youtu.be
If you would rather watch our White Rose video in a separate tab or on a different device, here is a link to today’s video. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/week-10-measurement-money/ Please select lesson 4, ‘Select Money’.
Times Tables
Times Tables Rockstars

Hello Swallows!
You made it to Friday! Well done for another brilliant week of home learning. I have been amazed by the enthusiasm and determination shown by so many Swallows this week. I am so incredibly proud of every single one of you.
I would love to hear about the super learning that you complete at home today on our class discussion. Perhaps you could tell me your highlight of the week? What has been your favourite activity? Alternatively, you could send me an email with some of your work attached to it.
As always, please do let me know if you have any questions about today’s learning. I will be available on our discussion for the duration of the school day.
It was fantastic to see so many of you on our zoom meeting yesterday! Today’s meeting will start at 9:20 am again – please see your emails or our class discussion for the meeting link and password.
Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.
Maths – Can you count money? Today we are going to be learning how to count money with a focus on pounds AND pence. We will be using the part-whole and bar model to help us. Please see the link to our talking PowerPoint below. Please pause the video to complete each activity. Just like yesterday, I have embedded the White Rose video onto our PowerPoint. This should mean that you do not need to leave the video. As the PowerPoints are such large documents to download, we feel it would be best for everyone to access their learning via the YouTube link. We hope that this will make accessing your home learning even easier.

Times Tables
Today we are going to continue to learn our 5 x table. Here is a link to a game that you can play online. Coconut Multiples is a tablet-friendly maths game which can reinforce your knowledge of times tables by helping you to recognise the multiples from each table. I want you to think to yourself, will I say this number if I am counting in 5s? Please select multiples of 5 first. You could then have a go at spotting multiples of 2 and 10 if you wanted to.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/times-tables/coconut-multiples
I have also attached a ‘Multiplication Muddle’ board game to the blog which you could choose to play if you wanted some time away from the screen.
Writing
Can you write a letter as one of the villagers to a friend/family member?
Please see the talking PowerPoint video linked below. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click play and then pause when it is time to complete an activity.
I have attached the story of ‘Saint George and the Dragon’ to our blog so that you can remind yourself of what happened in the story if you need to. Having your emotions graph out might help you with today’s lesson too.

Our new Christian Value is RESPECT. Look again at the 17 Global Goals below and think about how we can respect our own homes, gardens, parks and local area.
Reflection
Talk to your family about the Global Goals and think about what small actions you could take at home. Make a pledge on the blank puzzle piece attached to today’s Blog about what you and your family could do.
For example: Mrs Evans’ family are no longer using plastic food bags and cling film. They are on a mission to make sure they turn off the lights in the rooms they are not using and they go for walks and runs locally so they don’t use the car as much.
PE
Do you remember how much we enjoyed our gymnastics learning last year? In the game linked below, you get the chance to revisit all of the jumps that we learnt with Laura in our gymnastics lessons. You will need a large, clear space and please make you that you either have bare feet or trainers on. Warning…. This game might get tiring VERY quickly. Who is up for the challenge?

It has been a busy week for everyone and I think we are all ready for the weekend. Have a good rest and I will speak to you again on Monday. Parents, I will be phoning to check in with you all on Monday too.
Lots of love from

Swallows - Thursday 7th January, by Miss Gillam
Date: 6th Jan 2021 @ 4:55pm
Thursday 7th January 2021
Good morning super Swallows! Happy Thursday!
I hope you are all well and ready for another busy day of home learning. Thank you so much for your outstanding efforts and patience yesterday. I am so proud of you all already. We understand that technical difficulties can be frustrating but we are doing all that we can do fix them as soon as possible.
Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks will be for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. This is a fantastic way that we can keep in touch and I will be on the class discussion throughout the school day.
Maths – Bonds to 100
Addition and Subtraction- Please see the talking Power point attached at the bottom of the page. You will see a little icon on each page which needs to be clicked on in order to hear my voice. Our home learning maths lessons will be guided by a recording of my voice which will explain what to do (like I do each day in class). Just click on the little speaker icon on the power point page). If you are struggling to hear the sound on the PowerPoint, here is a video of the full PowerPoint. You may need to come out of this to watch the White Rose video mentioned and linked below. Just press pause and continue whenever you are ready.
Here is a link to the video shown during our PowerPoint today:

You will find the corresponding worksheet attached at the bottom of the blog. You not not need to print this. Recording your answers on a piece of paper will be absolutely fine.
Times Tables
Swallows have really enjoyed learning how to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 over the past few months. We have now started to answer multiplication and division number sentences for the 2, 5- and 10-times table. Can your Swallow write out the 2 x table? Can you write it quicker than yesterday? When writing each number sentence, please encourage your Swallow to say ‘ 1 lot of 2’ ‘2 lots of 2’ ‘3 lots of 2’.
1 x 2 =
2 x 2 =
3 x 2 =
Writing
Can you describe the seasons? - See the Power point attached at the bottom on this blog post. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do.
Again, here is a link to the video for if you are struggling to access the sound on your device.

Please spend some time reading either the school book you took home with you or a book you have been reading at home each day. Please also remember to use our Oxford Owl website to access reading books online. Here you can access Read Write Inc and other story books at your level.
