Hello and Welcome to the new Puffins blog!
The children are really starting to settle in to their new classroom environment, which is such an accomplishment for them.
I know Puffins class will be an enjoyable and positive experience for the children with lots of fun and learning both indoors and outdoors.
In the mornings we do our phonics, writing and our maths and in the afternoon we do either Science, Geography, Art, DT, RE or PHSCE.
In science we have been looking at skeletons. We have looked at dinosaur skeletons and the palaeontologist Mary Anning. This week we looked at the function of a skeleton and the differences between animal and human skeletons plus vertebrates and invertebrates. Next week we will be looking at the function of muscles in the body.
In Geography we have been looking at countries of the UK and their capital cities. This week we will be looking at continents and which continent the UK is in.
In Art last week we were looking at Abstract art, in particular Andy Warhol and Piet Mondrian. In the coming weeks we will be looking at various other artists and creating our own versions of their work.
Our PE days are on Wednesday mornings with Mr Ault.
Fridays are our Forest school days where we do outdoor learning in the wooded area. Please remember wellies and warm clothes for your child. Wellies can be kept in school if need be.
Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Worship: We have learned about Agents of Hope and the kindness people have shown- particularly during times of Lockdown and isolation. We have discussed how we can all be Agents of Hope. We have also shared ideas with Ethos group to help them write a new school prayer
Writing: We will learn about the present perfect tense and how to use it in our writing within the theme of Escape from Pompeii and recap the use of commas in a list of adjectives.
Reading: We will look at how different features of non-fiction texts help us to understand what we are reading: words in bold, labels, diagrams, captions, colour, headings and subheadings.
Reading homework- I have been so impressed with so many more Goldfinches recording their reading and sharing lovely little snippets of their reading with me. Keep up the great work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to enjoy sharing stories with your Starling at home. If your child has received new books for Christmas that you think other children will enjoy please do let me know and I will try and order them in for the class
The children will continue to bring home a Read Write Inc book, a book bag book and a bedtime story each week. This provides them with a variety of familiar, new and challenging texts to read. Bedtime story books are to be enjoyed with an adult. Reading TO the children ensures that they experience the magic of a story coming to life and have a purpose and love of reading.
English
This week we have looked at an image from the book and written about what we could see with a focus on using adjectives to make our writing more interesting. We really enjoyed watching the opening scene from ‘The Lion King’ and seeing all the different animals. The children then chose their favourite animal from the clip and write sentences describing them and how they moved.
Maths
Starlings class looking at numbers up to 20.
In Religion, we are looking at the wonder of God’s creation. We have already been out for a walk in the school grounds and explored the beauty of our outdoor world using our senses. In history, we are looking at some of the inventions in transport and looking at how vehicles have changed over the years and why. This past week we have explored how people travelled 100 years ago. We decided that having to walk everywhere or ride a horse would mean our journey would take much longer than it would in a car today In geography we will continue with our exploration of the United Kingdom and locate other places as we explore our topic. In Science, we have looked at classifying animals. Initially, we classified them into our own groups – animals with legs, animals that can fly, animals that live in water etc. We then watched a film clip about reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and insects and the children worked in groups to classify pictures of animals using this information.

Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime story books. Please remember the importance of your child listening to YOU read during this time too.

Our PE days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue. Can we also ask that your child has a drink bottle that is clearly named and contains only water. We also request that if your child wears trainers with laces they are able to independently retie them if they become undone otherwise can they please wear trainers with a Velcro fastening.

Top Table: Skyla and Joshua Praise: Will
I am continuing to love getting to know Swallows class and developing strong relationships. The children have loved getting to know Miss Cooper this week as she has been working alongside me to 'team teach' the children. Swallows have been enthused by their learning this week and I know how much they have loved our topic themed sessions, in particular our role play looking at whether it is morally right or wrong to take items from the Titanic wreckage. The children created great arguments and were able to verbally justify their reasoning, building on other children's thoughts and feelings.
Key change
I have taken the decision to change the day of the weekly spellings test, this is to try and reduce the amount of testing that is done in one morning as I feel it is too much for the children. Swallows will be tested on their spellings on a Thursday and their timestables on a Friday morning.

Please note that our PE days this week are on Monday. Please come to school in your PE uniform as usual on this day.
Next Week
Next week, we will be exploring the geographical location of where the Titanic departed from and where it sank. We are going to be able to do the following:
- Describe the location of features and routes on a map.
- Know the 7 continents and 5 oceans/seas of the world
- Know the rivers in each capital city of the UK
- Explain what lessons have been learned.

Wow! What a busy week. I think the children (and adults) were shattered after the first week back in school. Starlings class have written a gorgeous recount all about Nibbles and his adventures and I have been blown away by their progress.

Worship: In worship we enjoyed a visit from Imran who helped us learn all about the 5 Pillars of Islam. In class worship we have listened to the story of Zacchaeus and reflected on our new Christian Value: Forgiveness.
Writing: We will continue to explore our new English text ‘Escape from Pompeii’ which has captured so many of our interests. We will continue to use a rich and varied vocabulary in our writing and practice using a range of prepositions and adverbs to tell our readers when and where something happened in our diary entries from the point of view of Tranio.
Reading: We will find out all about what volcanoes are and how they erupt. We will continue to build our vocabulary and use dictionaries to help this.
Reading homework- I have been so impressed with so many more Goldfinches recording their reading and sharing lovely little snippets of their reading with me. Keep up the great work.

RE: Now we have learned about beautiful Islamic art (and how mathematical the patterns are) will begin our new topic learning all about Islam and build on the knowledge Imran shared with us in worship last week.
Science: We will learn about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.
DT: We will taste test the ingredients for Greek Salad and design our own Greek inspired salad. We will learn to cut and slice ingredients safely and will assemble and taste our salads. Yummy!
History and Geography: We will learn where and when the Roman Empire began and the countries that were part of it.
PE: Swimming will begin on Thursday 20th for Y4. Please remove earrings at home (unless recently pierced) and come to school with long hair securely tied back. PE with Mr Ault is on Mondays and Fridays until further notice. As the outside area can get quite wet, please send in a spare pair of shoes and socks for your child to change into should they need to. Please remember to tie long hair back and remove earrings on PE days.
PSHCE: Our Heart Smart lesson is about recognising our feelings.
Music: We will continue to learn Ukulele on Thursdays.
German: We will learn to say how many brothers and sisters we have.

Week beg 17th January 2022
It was great to have the opportunity this week to speak to parents and to let you know how your child is doing. You should have also received an email about our SATs information meeting with the Zoom link. This will take place on Wednesday 26th January at 3:30pm.
Next week we will hopefully complete our pupil teacher meetings to allow your child to tell us about how they are getting on and a chance to share any targets that they or us want to work on together.
Our visit to the Imperial Museum Salford Quays has been postponed until after February half term due to Public Health advice. We will let you know the new date when it is confirmed and the exact cost of the trip (approx. £10). You will receive an email about this with additional information as soon as possible.
Remember to encourage your child to read for 15 – 20 mins daily and to record their reading in their diaries. We have stapled a list of recommended books for Year 6 children in the front of their diaries and we would like them to read some of these throughout the year. We have a lot of these texts in our class library so the children can borrow them from school or they might find some at their local library. We have asked them to tick off the books that that they read on the list.

Maths Homework – Key Stage Two Maths SATs Question Book and Times Tables Rockstars
Homework is pages 36 and 37 Dividing Fractions of the SATs book.
Over the next week, we would like the children to catch up on any pages that they have missed in their Maths book. They should have completed Section One – apart from Roman Numerals and Decimals, Section 2 – apart from Multiplying and Dividing Decimals, Section 3 Fractions, Comparing Fractions, Multiplying Fractions and Dividing Fractions.
In preparation for our SATs the children will receive new CGP books for Reading and Spelling Punctuation and Grammar next week. They will be expected to complete a number of pages for homework each week. The children will record these homework pages in their homework diaries and I will also put them on the blog.
Curriculum
Maths – Next week we will be solving problems relating to fractions and Geometry – position and direction.
History – children will be researching and presenting their findings on an aspect of World War 2.
DT – we will be revising structures and electrical circuits

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
We have had a super week of learning in Skylarks Class and I have been very impressed with how the children have settled back into our school routines. Well done Skylarks!
Next Week (W.B. 17.01.22)
In English, we will further explore our new book ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’. As we read through the story, we will collect and innovate noun phrases to describe the characters, animals and setting. We will then use these noun phrases to help us write a poem about the Norse world. We will also do some work around summarising and create a story map to show what the character Arthur encountered on his journey to Valhalla.
In Shared Reading, we will continue to read our book ‘Odd and the Frost Giants’. Our focus will be on drawing inferences, such as characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives. We will also be focussing on developing our vocabulary and will use dictionaries to explore the meaning of new words in context.
In maths, we will be exploring how to measure and calculate the perimeter of both regular and irregular shapes. We will also consolidate our understanding of the four operations through daily 4-A-Day activities.
In science we will be thinking about our new science topic ‘Animals, including Humans’. We will start the topic by considering what we already know about the changes humans go through as they develop to old age. We will also ask some questions which we aim to answer over the coming weeks.
During our topic day we will focus on our Design and Technology project on leavers and pulley mechanisms. This will link with our learning on the local area and Anderton Boat Lift, which uses huge pulleys to make it work. We will have a tinkering session where we will explore these different mechanisms and how they work.
We will also have an art day next week where we will be exploring the colours and techniques used by Monet and Turner. We will then use these techniques to create a piece of inspired artwork.
Our PE day for the Spring Term will be Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
Homework
In year 5 the children will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers in the back of the homework book.
If your child is finding the homework tricky, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime for your child to ask any questions or receive some support to complete their homework.
The children should complete pages 21 and 22 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 21st January. This homework is looking at multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
Please also encourage your child to read for 20 minutes each evening and practice their spellings/times tables. The following websites are both great for times tables practice:

We have had a fabulous week in Swallows! We have spent more time getting to know each other and the children have behaved impeccably and have been extremely helpful. Sadly, we have taken the decision to cancel the school Christmas performance which we know will be diappointing for the children. However, I am excitied to do a performance in the Summer together!
This week, the children have welcomed a student teacher (Miss Cooper), who will be with us until the Easter holidays. She will work with the children and myself to enhance the teaching and learning.

Welcome to Goldfinches’ Weekly Blog
Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all had a happy and relaxed holiday.
Goldfinches have returned to school with such enthusiasm and have worked so well this week.

Worship: This week in worship we have learned about the importance of Epiphany and have found out how it is celebrated in different countries.
Writing: We will continue to explore our new English text ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and focus on using a rich and varied vocabulary in our writing.
Reading: Our new Reading text is a non-fiction book on Volcanoes which we are enjoying and are learning some very technical new vocabulary from.
Reading homework- please keep up the great work with our mission to read for 15 minutes daily at home. This helps so much with our reading, imagination, punctuation and sentence structure… but, more importantly, is so much fun!
Spelling homework: This week’s spellings all use sc in the sound s.
This week’s words: scissors, ascend, descend, science, scientist, scene, muscle, fascinate, crescent, scent
Maths: We are continuing to learn subtraction using the formal column method and applying this to word problems. Mrs Judge will focus on developing the coordinates work we began learning about before Christmas.

Happy New Year to everyone! It has been lovely meeting and getting to know Swallows class. I am very pleased to be Swallows new class teacher and can't wait for our journey together this year!
We have a very busy yet exciting term in store for us!
English
This week we have started our new story 'The Dragon Machine' written by Helen Ward. The children began the week noticing dragon footprints and that an egg had been laid. Throughout the week they have used adjectives to create noun phrases to describe what they have found. We will continue with developing this during next week.
Maths
Swallows class are currently working with money by adding up different coins.
RE
In Religion, we are exploring the Jewish faith and discovering their love for God in their daily life.
Reading
Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime storybooks. Please take turns reading to each other. Listening is just as important as being able to read and will support your child in their understanding of stories.

Happy New Year to everyone! It was lovely to welcome everyone back this week and hopefully we will all stay safe and well over the next few weeks.
We have another busy term in store and will have pupil teacher meetings to look at targets together and also parent teacher phone calls where we can discuss progress and attainment for the Autumn term.
We are also planning to visit the Imperial Museum Salford Quays on Wednesday 2nd February to enhance our learning on our ‘Conflict’ topic. A letter will be sent out with more details asap.
Remember to encourage your child to read for 15 – 20 mins daily and to record their reading in their diaries. We have stapled a list of recommended books for Year 6 children in the front of their diaries and we would like them to read some of these throughout the year. We have a lot of these texts in our class library so the children can borrow them from school or they might find some at their local library. We have asked them to tick off the books that that they read on the list.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year. It has been so lovely to welcome the children back into school this week.
This week we have started our new book ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ by Joe Todd-Stanton in our English lessons. We started by asking questions about the book and building new vocabulary about the ancient Norse world and the Gods.
In maths we have been learning about square and cube numbers, as well as revisiting the four operations.
During our topic day, we consolidated our understanding of our local area before comparing and contrasting Northwich with Llandudno. We looked at the human and physical features of each town before making comparisons between the two using a Venn Diagram.
In Science, we finished our Materials topic with a study into the Scientist ‘Spencer Silver’. Ask your Skylark what he discovered and why he is important!
In RE, we began to think about our new theme ‘Humanism’. We started our topic by asking our own questions about Humanism which we aim to answer through our learning this half term.
The children also enjoyed completing their computing projects about how computers impact our lives. We added to our Key Note presentations after finding out more about the advancements of robots around the world and how social media is developing.

Swimming:
Next Thursday (13th January) will be the final swimming session for Skylarks Class. Some children may continue to attend alongside Year 4, however you will be contacted separately if this includes your child.
Next Week (W.B. 10.01.22)
In English, we will further explore our new book ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’. We will start the week by exploring the family tree of the Norse Gods before writing character profiles using relative clauses. We will also focus on developing our vocabulary next week, creating a glossary of new words and definitions.
In Shared Reading, we will start our new book ‘Odd and the Frost Giants’. Like our writing book, this story also focuses on the ancient Norse world ‘Asgard’. Our focus will be on drawing inferences, such as characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives. We will use our ‘visualising’ and ‘thinking out loud’ techniques to help us infer information stated and implied, justifying our answers with evidence from the text.
In Maths we will be revising inverse operations and how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. We will also consolidate our understanding of the four operations through daily 4-A-Day activities.
In RE we will continue to explore our topic on ‘Humanism’. We will read the book ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers to help us understand what Humanism is and the 5 main themes/beliefs.
Our PE day for the Spring Term will be Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on this day. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.
We will also be having our final swimming session next week (Thursday 13th January 2022) so the children should come to school in their PE kit on this day as well.
Homework
In year 5 the children will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers in the back of the homework book.
If your child is finding the homework tricky, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime for your child to ask any questions or receive some support to complete their homework.
The children should complete pages 16 and 17 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 14th January. This homework is looking at square and cube numbers.

Happy new year to all our Starling families. We hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful Christmastime with your children. Hopefully, you will all have been able to have a good rest. The children certainly seemed well-rested when they arrived bright and breezy on Tuesday morning.
By next week we will be starting our new class text. ‘The Lion Inside’ by Rachel bright is an inspiring story that shows we all have a lion inside of us! It truly is a wonderful text and the children always really enjoy it

The children will continue to bring home a Read Write Inc book, a book bag book and a bedtime story each week. This provides them with a variety of familiar, new and challenging texts to read. Bedtime storybooks are to be enjoyed with an adult. Reading TO the children ensures that they experience the magic of a story coming to life and have a purpose and love of reading.
English
This week we have written a diary entry based on our class text ‘Nibble the book monster’. I will be sad to say goodbye to Nibbles as the children have really been excited to read about his exploits. If this is not a book you have at home I would definitely recommend it.
Maths
Starlings class are currently looking at multiples of 10 up to 100.
In Religion, we are looking at the wonder of God’s creation. We have already been out for a walk in the school grounds and explored the beauty of our outdoor world using our senses. In history, we are looking at some of the inventions in transport and looking at how vehicles have changed over the years and why. In geography, we will continue with our exploration of the United Kingdom.
Reading
Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime storybooks. Please remember the importance of your child listening to YOU read during this time too.
RWI
Please refer to your child’s diary for information regarding the sounds that your child has been taught and also the titles of the books they will have at home.
Spellings
During the Spring term, our spellings will be focused on the Year One Common Exception words. These are words that the children will come across frequently in both their reading and writing. We will complete a spelling quiz in class every Friday. Please use your spelling whiteboard to help you to learn your spellings each week. We will write your child's score in their diary each week. This will be written next to the spellings they have been tested on that day. This will be on the page of the previous weeks.
There is no spelling quiz on Friday 7th January. Spellings will be put in your child’s homework diary on the 7th January for the following week
PE
Our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue. Can we also ask that your child has a drink bottle that is clearly named and contains only water. We also request that if your child wears trainers with laces they are able to independently retie them if they become undone otherwise can they please wear trainers with a Velcro fastening.

Year 6 have been busy this week getting in the Christmas Spirit and preparing games for our Christmas Fair which will take place on Wednesday.
Please continue with reading at home next week and have a look on Twitter where we have posted some recommended reads for Year 6 which would also make some excellent gifts for Christmas.
Homework
We will not have a spelling test next Friday. The children have a copy of the Year 5/6 Statutory Words in their diaries and can begin to learn these in their own time. I have asked them to do this in a fun way by choosing a few at a time that maybe they think they’ll use in their writing. They could create a graffiti wall, rainbow words, paint the words with images, draw around the shape of the words etc.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
What a fantastic week we have had in Skylarks Class. The children have worked so hard on both their final pieces of writing and end of term assessments this week and we are so proud of them!!
Looking ahead to our final week of the term, we have lots of festive fun planned to say thank you for working so hard.
Next Week (W.B. 13.12.21)
In maths we will be applying our knowledge of written methods of addition and subtraction by solving tricky multi-step problems. We will use our reasoning skills to explain our methods and answers.
In our shared reading lessons, we will be finishing our book ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We will be looking specifically at the language the author uses to create a tense atmosphere.
In our RE lesson we will be reflecting on our ‘Incarnation’ topic. We will consider all of the titles given to Jesus in the bible, before answering the big question, ‘Why are these titles given to Jesus and are they helpful for Christians?’
In Art we will continue our work on colour. In our lesson we will explore the colour wheel and create our own tints, tones and shades of each hue on the wheel.
In RSE we will be exploring relationships. We will be learning about marriage in the UK and the laws surrounding this. We will also use drama techniques to help us understand what marriage vows are.
Unfortunately, swimming is cancelled this week (W.B. 13.12.21).

Hi Everyone
We are sending lots of love to everyone who is at home, we miss you and can't wait to welcome you back into Robins class.
We have had an unusual week but have made the most of it and enjoyed lots of fantastic outdoor PE lessons.
Next week we will be concentrating on the use of conjunctions in English to join two simple sentences together. We will use this skill to write a character description of Tom and to write a conversation between Tom and his Mum from our beautiful story Winter's Child.
In Maths we are continuing with our column addition of 3 digit numbers adding tens, we will explore how to exchange when the tens digit totals more than 9. We will also use a number line to help our understanding of what happens as we cross the hundreds boundary. The website mathsframe has some great times tables practice games on for the children to play on at home to increase their rapid recall of multiplication facts. https://mathsframe.co.uk/
In RE, we will explore why Christians support charity work of children around the world and the impact of their actions of others. We will link this to our mission statement "Christ is the Light that guides us."
In Science we will explore how we see things by light travelling in straight lines and reflecting off surfaces into our eyes as well as investigating how shadows are made.
We will hopefully continue with our ukuele lessons as well as enjoying Cricket and PE with Mr Ault. Spare socks are also useful in book bags as sometimes trainers can get wet.
Our spelling focus for everyone this week is homophones. A homophone is a word that sounds the same as another word however is spelt differently and has a different meaning.

We will encourage the children to use expression when reading out loud, especially when reading a conversation between characters, paying particular attention to the adverbs used by the author to explain how the character is talking. Maths: This week we have investigated the symmetry of quadrilaterals. We have learned to reason about addition and subtraction problems, add 1, 10, 100 and 1000 to 4-digit numbers and looked at the formal method of addition for numbers that don’t cross the 10, 100 or 1000 boundary. Next week we will continue with column addition and subtraction.
Times Tables Homework:
Try Hit the Button and choose the division 6x table facts to help prepare for our Gold x6 tables test which lots of children are now working on. The next times tables will be 9x tables.

Science: We saw the rather shocking results of our own investigation into the effects of different drinks on our teeth. We chose to leave boiled eggs in coke, Lucozade, fresh orange juice, dilute cordial and sugar free lemonade. We made some important decisions about the health of our teeth based on our results. We began exploring the different parts of the digestive system and will continue this next week.
History: We learned about Alexander the Great by researching the question: ‘How Great was Alexander the Great?’
Art: We have continued to practise sketching a human figure in proportion and extended this to figures who are moving. We created our own Greek pots to tell our own Legacy. We explored adding tint and shade to colour and applied this to help us make beautiful Christmas cards.

PSHCE: Our No Outsiders lesson was based on Marmaduke the very different dragon which is a beautiful book that encourages us to celebrate our differences. We designed a pair of our very own special and unique wings. .

Can you believe it is December already and the Autumn term is nearly over?
What a brilliant week we have had again in Skylarks Class. Thank you for always showing such enthusiasm and engagement in our lessons. Mrs Judge and I have been so proud of your wonderful writing and super maths work this week.

In our English lessons next week, we will be planning and writing our very own versions of ‘The Lost Happy Endings’. We will focus on giving detailed descriptions of both the setting and characters using figurative language, as well as how we can use speech to move the story along. I am already very excited to read our wonderful stories!
In maths we will continue to explore multiples, factors and prime numbers. We will also use our problem-solving skills to help us solve tricky questions around mental addition and subtraction. As always, we will continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.

Hello Everyone
Well, the show must go on! We will pick up our singing and dancing practice again in January. Thank you for the costumes that you have given so far. These can come into school the first week back in January now that we have a little extra time. We can't wait to perform Hoodwinked to you all. The children are still listening to the songs and enjoying learning them without singing them, who knew this was possible?!
We will be busy making Christmas crafts this week as the excitement builds towards the big day!
In our Maths lessons, we are continuing to add using a variety of methods. This week, we will be adding tens onto a three digit number by exploring what happens when the tens digits total more than 9.
In Writing, we are using our knowledge of simple and compound sentences to aid description of beautiful settings in our story Winter's Child. Now we have met Winter's Child, we will be reminding ourselves about how to write a dialogue between two characters using inverted commas correctly.
In Art, the children will continue learning how to make new colours using primary, secondary and tertiary colours as they create a sunset.
In RE we will be learning about the Christmas Story and the season of Advent.
In History, the children are thoroughly enjoying learning about life in the Stone Age. They wowed me with their understanding about how homes changed during the Stone Age last week and I can't wait to develop their enquiry and chronology skills further as we move our learning into the Bronze Age and look at key developments as well as inventions that have impacted life today.
Cricket this week is on THURSDAY NOT WEDNESDAY. Please send your children into school wearing warm PE kits on Monday for their lesson with Mr Ault and on Thursday for their Cricket lesson. We will also enjoy our Ukuele lesson on Thursday afternoon.
Thank you for your continued support with reading and times tables. We now have the Top 100 Reads for Y3 laminated in class and the children are taking pride in popping their name next to each title as they have read one. Please continue to listen to your child reading out loud each evening. Reading is the most wonderful way of getting lost in a story with exciting characters, is great for learning new vocabulary and can increase the quality of your child's writing. I have also updated Times Table Rockstars so that the children can practise their rapid recall of multiplication and division facts. Please look out for their sticker each week in their reading diaries as this informs you of where the children are upto weekly. We have had yet another wonderful week of super learning in Swallows class this week. Christmas play rehearsals are well underway. Please continue to learn your words at home as there will be no scripts on stage during our live performances. You will have seen already that our performance dates have changed. Thank you to those who have brought costumes in to school already. Please could we have any remaining costumes in school ASAP.
Reminders:
Please note that our PE days this week are Monday and Thursday. Our usual Wednesday cricket session has moved to Thursday for this week only. Please come to school in your PE uniform as usual on this day.
Next Week
We will be completing our termly assessments in school this week. We will complete a selection of ‘Show me what you know’ quizzes. These are used to inform planning and assess progress in Reading and Maths.
Our English work will continue to focus on ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ this week. We will plan and write our own non-chronological reports about cats, using what we have learnt about owls to help us.
We will be completing an exciting science investigation this week where we explore which materials are best for mopping up a spill. We will also link our Science learning to our history topic of ‘flight’ by creating our very own parachutes.

This week, we have been learning about using ‘y’ as a suffix and learning the rules about doubling the last consonant before adding ‘y’.
Practise reading and writing these words using our new rule:

Reading focus: We have been looking at clues in the text to tell us what might happen next in the story.

Reading
Please spend 10 – 20 minutes reading each day. This can be a combination of Read Write Inc and bedtime story books. Please remember the importance of your child listening to YOU read during this time too.
Spellings
During the Autumn term our spellings will be focused on the Year Two Common Exception words. These are words that the children will come across frequently in both their reading and writing. We will complete a spelling quiz in class every Friday. Please use your spelling whiteboard to help you to learn your spellings each week. We will write your child's score in their diary each week. This will be written next to the spellings they have been tested on that day. This will be on the page of the previous weeks.

Hello everyone and welcome back to Skylarks weekly blog ?
We have had another super week of learning in Skylarks Class. The children have made myself and Mrs Judge very proud with their hard work and dedication to their learning.
Thank you to all of our wonderful Skylarks who are working so hard at home as well. We are very proud of you!
Next Week (W.B. 29.11.21)
In our English lessons next week, we will continue to explore our book ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray. During our lessons, we will be looking more closely at the characterisation of different characters. We will be focusing on how we can integrate dialogue into our writing to develop characterisation and advance the action.
In maths we will be starting to explore multiplication by learning about multiples, factors and prime numbers. We will also continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.
In science we will be recapping and reflecting on our learning from our ‘materials’ unit of work. We will think about the new knowledge we have acquired and will consider whether the questions we asked at the beginning of the year have now been answered through our investigations.
During our topic day, we will continue to work on our information leaflets about the Lion Salt Works. We will look at the process of making salt, the importance of the salt works and the effect the salt industry had on Northwich.
Our PE days this week will be Tuesday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue. On Thursday your child will also need to have their swimming costume and towel in a plastic bag.
Homework
In year 5 the children will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers in the back of the homework book.
If your child is finding the homework tricky, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime for your child to ask any questions or receive some support to complete their homework.
The children should complete pages 64 and 65 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 3rd December. This homework is looking shape.

The show will go on!! We have put all Hoodwinked play rehearsals on pause until January. Thank you for all the costumes, we will keep these safely in school. When we return after Christmas we will begin rehearsals again in school on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon.
Remember to encourage your child to read for 15 – 20 mins daily and to record their reading in their diaries. We have stapled a list of recommended books for Year 6 children in the front of their diaries and we would like them to read some of these throughout the year. We have a lot of these texts in our class library so the children can borrow them from school or they might find some at their local library. We have asked them to tick off the books that that they read on the list.
