Tuesday 23rd February
Good morning my lovely Skylarks 😊
I hope you all had a great first day back after the half term holidays. Thank you all for engaging with our zoom and for working so hard yesterday. You may have heard the news that we will all be back together again in school on 8th March. I am so excited for this day to arrive and to see all of your lovely smiling faces back in our classroom!!!
It would be great to see you all on our zoom this morning. Please also remember that I will be available on our discussion/homework area throughout the school day to help you and provide feedback on your work.
Please see below for today’s remote learning tasks.
Maths
Multiplication: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today, we are going to continue to look at multiplication, specifically learning how to multiple two 2-digit numbers using the area method.
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Times Tables
This week I would like you to practice any tables that you still find tricky up to 12 x 12. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?
Spellings
Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the ‘ee’ sound spelt ‘ei’. You could make your own spelling doodle and add to it throughout the week. I will add a new word each day and then on Friday we can have a little quiz.

Cave Gallery - Children’s Art in a Virtual Environment
Would you like to see your art work in an online art gallery?
The Cave is an online gallery for children and young people in and around Northwich to exhibit their Art work. The gallery is being developed for children to express their response of their experience in lockdown. The Cave hope to encourage young artists to set up their own galleries in a window of their home to curate and show their work in the local community.
The first online show will be for Easter 2021. The theme for the exhibition is ‘Hunker’. Many animals hunker down, hibernate and keep to their nests in winter and this winter we have joined them! We have been hunkering down since March and the experience has been very different for each of us. Please see the attached poster or visit the website linked below for more information on this exciting project. Please remember to submit your work before the end of March.

Hello everyone. We think you have worked so hard with your remote learning this half term so as a little treat and a big thank you here are some lovely activities for you to choose from today.
We would like you to start with Mrs Powell’s worship then complete your Science lesson.
Then the choice is yours! Perhaps these will give you some nice ideas to do over the half term holiday too.

Science
Our science lessons on forces continue today where we will be thinking about contact forces. You can find the lesson here:
You can download the accompanying worksheets from our blog, however this is not essential. You can simply record your responses/answers on some paper.
Introductory Quiz:
Final Quiz:
Story - ‘One Hundred Steps’ by Sir Captain Tom Moore
This is a beautiful story written by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who we remember for raising money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is an important message of resilience and optimism, just when we need it most. It’s a book about adventure, family, hope and what we can achieve when we work together. This will help to remind us of Sir Tom, who sadly passed away last week, and of the kindness and courage we require in these unprecedented times. Please follow the link to ‘One Hundred Steps’:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgZZ1SbOSxM&t=2s
Please click here for the link to a video of all of the teachers explaining the fun activities below!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNh6KS0A38E
Den Building
Build a den either inside (or even outdoors if we are lucky enough to have a warm, dry day) You could use blankets, sheets, cushions, old boxes, chairs. Could you put your teddy bear in there and a book?
Draw with Rob
http://www.robbiddulph.com/draw-with-rob
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt
While you are out on your daily walk, why not look out for the following things and tick them off when you see them. There is a large copy of the sheet attached to the blog.
Puppet show
- Make up your own story to act out or you could use one of your favourite stories instead
- Make your own puppet characters – these could be sock, stick or finger puppets
- You could even make your own puppet theatre out of a cereal box
- Perform your story using your puppets for your family
Obstacle Course
You don’t need any fancy equipment. Just get creative with the things you have already got at home or in your garden. E.g.
- Balance a potato on a spoon
- Balance a cushion on your head
- Jump over a skipping rope/piece of string, pair of tights
- Use rolled up socks as cones and run in and out of them
- Keepie uppies with rolled up socks
Lego building challenge
How many of these objects could you make using your Lego?
Don’t worry if you don’t have any Lego, could you make these using different materials that you could find around your house e.g. Empty toilet roll holders, cereal boxes, plastic bottles etc.
Make A Glitter Jar
Have some fun creating your very own glitter jar – fill it with water and whatever you have around the house then shake it and let your mind calm as you watch everything float to the bottom.
Art – Can you make your own view finder?
Are you feeling creative and outdoorsy today? Why not have a go at creating your own view finder with Miss Gillam today. Use your view finder to help you to bite off a measurable chunk of a landscape to draw. This can be anywhere from your back yard to your garden or even the view from your balcony. All you will need is a piece of paper, a pencil and some string. Don’t forget to share your masterpiece with your family, our school Twitter page and in your next class Zoom call.
Maths
Let’s make our walk today a little more interesting, time to play ‘Walking Bingo!’
Visit https://www.template.net/design-templates/free-printable-bingo-card/
And print off a bingo card to take with you on your next walk. Search for the numbers on your card on houses, signs, bus stops....If you find a number on you card, you can cross it off. I wonder if you can get a line or even a full house?
Or, perhaps you could make your own number pavement trail using chalk?
Build a structure using marshmallows and spaghetti

Bottle Moments
Have fun and Happy Half Term!

Tuesday 9th February
Good morning Skylarks 😊
Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you are all well today and had a great Monday. Please don’t forget to join our zoom session this morning at 8.40am. I can’t wait to see you all!
Please see below for today’s home learning tasks and remember that I will be available on our discussion/homework area throughout the school day to help you and provide feedback on your work.
Today we are going to celebrate #SaferInternetDay which aims to raise awareness and make the internet a safer and better place for all.
As we are all on this remote learning journey, we are probably spending a lot more time on the internet and so knowing how to keep ourselves safe is more important than ever!
Here are some internet safety tasks that you may wish to complete today:
- Watch the Safer Internet Day lesson using the link below which will go live this morning at 11am, however you can watch it any time after this too. In this lesson we will learn about how we can stay safe, responsible and wise in an increasingly digital world, with tips and advice from some of the biggest personalities on the internet: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/safer-internet-day-live-lesson/zdh2wnb
- Using what you have learnt in the lesson above, create a story board or poster to show how to stay safe when online. You could use the templates attached to today’s blog or simply design your own.
- Join Dr Chips and Ms Lieghio for a Safer Internet Day live special! They’ll be launching a brand new online game about phishing scams,‘ The Phisherman’, for KS2 children. Join live at 1.30pm today or watch again at this link at a time to suit you: https://youtu.be/lHbRiFmUFkw
- Sometimes being online becomes too much and it is important to take a minute, switch devices off and talk to a grown up. The following videos help to explain how we might feel online and explain that we may need to take a minute away from devices to focus our minds on something calming and relaxing: https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2018/sid-tv-2018/sid-tv-2018-how-i-feel-online-film-7-11-year-olds
Please share your posters and storyboards with us on Twitter using the hashtag #SaferInternetDay

Eco Schools at Home Campaign
Mrs Brennan has registered our school into an #EcoSchoolsAtHome campaign and she needs your help! Have a look at the below eco-challenges that we would love you to complete before 26th March 2021:
- Draw a ‘Don’t drop litter’ poster and drop it to the school reception area to be displayed in the window
- Upcycle a plastic bottle into something new (e.g. a bird feeder)
- Carry out a 2 day single use plastic audit at home – this means keep a record of all the times you use single-use plastic that needs to be thrown away after use
- Design a new anti-littering slogan and logo for fast food, soft drinks or PPE litter
- Interview an older person to ask them about their thoughts on if the amount of litter is increasing
You can share photos of your work or you completing the eco-challenges with us on Twitter, or drop off anything you do make into the school reception area.
Worship
Today for our worship I would like you to take part in a guided meditation on My Smiling Mind, just like we do in school.

Good morning Skylarks 😊
I hope you are all well this morning and staying motivated with your school work. Today is a very special day because it’s Teddy’s 1st birthday!! Here he is showing off his birthday bandana and cupcake!
Please find the link for this week’s zoom sessions in your emails or on our class discussion – Teddy might even join us this morning.
See below for today’s home learning tasks and remember that I will be available on our discussion/homework area throughout the school day to help you and provide feedback on your work.
This week is Children’s Mental Health week where we will celebrate the theme ‘Express Yourself’.
Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share your feelings, thoughts, or ideas and doing activities that make you feel good.
Please find attached a word document that contains lots of different ideas of things you can do to support your positive wellbeing at home. These activities allow us to explore our feelings and emotions, but also give us time to switch off our brains from school work and focus on doing things that make us happy.
Here is a gorgeous video you might like to watch at home. It reminds us that even though things are a bit different and strange at the minute, people around the world are finding new ways to share love, laughter and hope with each other:

Monday 25th January
Good morning Skylarks 😊
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another busy week of home learning.
Please remember our zoom sessions will continue this week, starting at 8.40am. You will find the meeting link and passcode in your emails or on our class discussion for today.
Today we are also introducing the homework feature on school spider. This allows you to submit your maths and English work online to just me, rather than the whole class. I will then look at your work and provide you with feedback. The important part to note is that you need to use the ‘Upload your homework’ button for it to go only to me. If you use the ‘Post your reply’ section, the other children in the class can see your work too (like on our discussion).
Our class discussion will also be up and running as normal for you to ask any questions. You can also continue to share your work on our discussion if you are happy to share it with all of your Skylark friends.
Maths
Adding and Subtracting fractions: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we are adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Times Tables
This week can you practice your x11 tables? Don’t forget to practice other tables that you still find tricky too. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Writing
Hansel and Gretel – speech: Again, please see the PowerPoint attached. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do. Today, we will continue to look at the book ‘Hansel and Gretel’ by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. We will be thinking carefully about the character of the step mother and what she might say. We will then be writing direct speech using inverted commas (“speech marks”)
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the writing lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Reading
It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.
Remember to continue writing in your reading diary and get an adult to sign in, then we can collect our raffle tickets when we are back in school.
Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?

Worship
Today Mrs Powell has recorded a worship for you which you can watch here:
Reflection: Mrs Powell’s message today was about our Christian Value of RESPECT. Make a hand poem of your own all about respect. Who and what do you want to pray for at the moment? You could draw around your own hand or an adult’s hand, cut it out and write an idea on each finger like Mrs Powell shared in her worship.

Our new Christian Value is RESPECT. Look at the 17 Global Goals document that is attached to this blog and think about how we can respect our own homes, gardens, parks and local area.
Reflection
Talk to your family about the Global Goals and think about what small actions you could take at home. Make a pledge on the blank puzzle piece attached to today’s Blog about what you and your family could do.
For example: Mrs Evans’ family are no longer using plastic food bags and cling film. They are on a mission to make sure they turn off the lights in the rooms they are not using and they go for walks and runs locally so they don’t use the car as much.
Have a lovely weekend Skylarks 😊

If you haven’t yet made an account, you can follow these instructions. First, you will need to sign up to a free account at https://app.smilingmind.com.au/ (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’. Then you need to select which type of mindfulness activities you are interested in, I recommend choosing ‘improving wellbeing’. Finally select the resources for ’10-12 year olds’ and you will now have access to 60+ mindfulness sessions that are great to help your child relax, unwind and switch off after a busy day of home learning.

Inverse Operations: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we will be focussing on using inverse operations. There are quite a lot of questions on the PowerPoint today as I wanted to give you lots of opportunities to practice, however don’t feel like you have to answer them all. Just do what works best for you!
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Times Tables
This week can you practice your x9 tables. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

Writing
The Lighthouse – Diary Entry: Again, please see the PowerPoint attached. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do. Today, we will be using a short video clip as a stimulus for our writing. We will then write a diary entry from the perspective of the character in the video.
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the writing lesson and story time at the following YouTube link:
Here is the link for the ‘Lighthouse’ story you are asked to watch in today’s lesson (you will need this if you are watching the lesson through YouTube as you cannot click the link directly from the video):

If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Reading
It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.
Remember to continue writing in your reading diary and get an adult to sign in, then we can collect our raffle tickets when we are back in school.
Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?
Spellings
Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the silent T letter. You could make your own spelling doodle and add to it throughout the week. I will add a new word each day and then on Friday we can have a little quiz.
Today’s word: glistening
Previous words: whistle, listening
Story: You will find our story embedded into our Writing PowerPoint – I wonder what the midnight fox will get up to next?
PE
Keeping active is so important for our physical and mental health.
Why not take part in our fitness challenge starting today? Can you do 20mins or over of continuous movement and 21 mins or over of continuous exercise every day? Please see the attached poster and record sheet for more details. You may not be able to participate every day but every day counts so do what you can. we would love to see photos of everyone taking part in the challenge on Twitter and to use #2021FitnessChallenge and tag @ValeRoyalSSP.

Worship
Today for our worship I would like you to take part in a guided meditation on My Smiling Mind, just like we do in school.
In order to access the resources at the link below you will need to sign up to a free account (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’.
Please do let me know if you have any trouble gaining access to these resources and I will do my best to help.

Have a great day Skylarks! Remember if you need any help with our work today, I will be on our class discussion throughout the school day.
