Swallows - Friday 8th January 2021, by Miss Gillam

Date: 7th Jan 2021 @ 3:20pm

Friday 8th January 2021

Good morning super Swallows!

How are you today? Did you enjoy describing the seasons yesterday? I hope you are ready for another fun filled day of home learning.

Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to find out what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages as it is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch.  To access this you will need to login to school spider. Your login details are stuck inside the front cover of your reading diary. We already have some Swallows talking about their favourite animals today.

Maths – Adding a 2-digit number and a 1-digit number - crossing 10.  Please see the talking Power point attached at the bottom of the page. You will see a little icon on each page which needs to be clicked on in order to hear my voice. If you are struggling to hear the sound on the PowerPoint, I have also attached a video of the full PowerPoint. via a YouTuve link. You may need to oress pause and come out of this to watch the White Rose video mentioned and linked below.

Note: Please do excuse my 'singing' today!

Here is a link to the White Rose video shown during our PowerPoint today:

One of our SUPER Swallows spotted that Miss Gillam needs to complete a fix-it today. Can you spot where Miss Gillam went wrong?

'Hi Miss Gillam the answer to the 70+14 is 84 not 74 😊'.  It is a good job I have you to help me!

  Times Tables

Swallows have really enjoyed learning how to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 over the past few months. We have now started to answer multiplication and division number sentences for the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Can your Swallow write out the 2 x table? Can you write it even quicker than yesterday?  This is our last day on our 2 x table. Perhaps you could use an online timer to see how quickly you can write them down?

2 x 2 =

3 x 2 =

Here are some lovely little 2 x table game where you can apply your skills. The games get harder as you progress down the page.

https://www.timestables.co.uk/2-times-table.html

Can you write a fact file?  - See the Power point attached at the bottom of this blog post. You will need to do some research today to help you with your writing.  Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do.

Thursday 7th January 2021

Happy Thursday Skylarks 😊

How are you all this morning? I know we had some technical issues with our home learning yesterday however hopefully all of these problems have been sorted for today and things will run smoothly.

Please remember our discussion is up and running again so if you have any questions about today’s work please come and join our chat where I can help you and answer any questions.

Maths

Factors: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we will be learning about factors.

If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link: https://youtu.be/KzMR28A8H8E

If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.

Times Tables

Continue to recap your 6x tables. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.

Remember to continue writing in your reading diary and get an adult to sign in, then we can collect our raffle tickets when we are back in school.

Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?

Spellings

Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the suffix ‘able’. You could make your own spelling doodle and add to it throughout the week. I will add a new word each day and then on Friday we can have a little quiz.

Thursday 7th January - Starlings home learning blog, by Mrs O'Marah

Date: 6th Jan 2021 @ 8:53pm

Thursday 7th January

Good morning Starlings and welcome back to another day of home learning. Thank you for working so hard yesterday and for joining in with the discussion on school spider, Mrs. Judge told me all about the fantastic work you all did and we are so proud of you.

Today we have responded to your feedback and hopefully addressed some technical issues from yesterday! We have saved our lesson presentations in both standard powerpoint and mp4 video format to hopefully ensure you can hear our audio. We changed the font to make it easier to read too.

As with yesterday, we would like you to focus your home learning on maths, phonics and writing today. There is a spelling task at the end of the writing lesson.

Today we have also included a story so please share this with us as reading stories together is such a valued part of our day!

I will be online between ordinary school hours today to chat with you and see your wonderful learning on the class discussion page so please share your work. Any problems please either let me know on the discussion page or email admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk and we will do our very best to resolve these straight away.

Missing you all so much! Stay safe and have fun.

Mrs. O’Marah and the rest of the Starlings team.

Read, Write, Inc Phonics

To make things slightly easier (we hope) today we have put the RWI phonics work on a separate powerpoint with links that should hopefully take you directly to the RWI channel on youtube. Please only access these links after 9:30am as they won't have been updated to a new lesson until that time!

Red group – you need to look out for set 1 videos

Green group you need to look out for set 2 videos

Pink, yellow and blue groups you need to look out for set 3 videos.

There are some audio instructions from the real RWI experts, Miss. Gillam and Mrs. Campion, to help you. Please feedback any difficulties you are having and let us know how you get on with your phonics learning today!

  Maths

Money- See the Power point attached. Today’s lesson follows on from yesterday’s and again there are audio instructions recorded so click on the audio button to access. As mentioned earlier, if you are having difficulty accessing the audio, try the video mp4 version of the lesson.

Today there is a resource for you to access and use so please find this and download along with the presentation.

 Writing

Today’s lesson is a follow on from yesterday’s introduction to our Little Red Riding Hood work. There is no need to print anything off although the children will be using images from the story to order and retell the main events so if you would prefer to have these printed then please feel free to do so.

 Spellings

The final slide of the English powerpoint has today’s spellings which are he, she and me. Please have a break after completing the Little Red Riding Hood work and come back to the spellings later on.

Story

Mrs. Esling has read the story ‘Zigby hunts for treasure’ so sit back and enjoy!

Have fun and good luck!

Swallows - Thursday 7th January, by Miss Gillam

Date: 6th Jan 2021 @ 4:55pm

Thursday 7th January 2021

Good morning super Swallows! Happy Thursday!

I hope you are all well and ready for another busy day of home learning.  Thank you so much for your outstanding efforts and patience yesterday. I am so proud of you all already. We understand that technical difficulties can be frustrating but we are doing all that we can do fix them as soon as possible.

Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks will be for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. This is a fantastic way that we can keep in touch and I will be on the class discussion throughout the school day.

  Maths – Bonds to 100

Addition and Subtraction- Please see the talking Power point attached at the bottom of the page. You will see a little icon on each page which needs to be clicked on in order to hear my voice. Our home learning maths lessons will be guided by a recording of my voice which will explain what to do (like I do each day in class). Just click on the little speaker icon on the power point page). If you are struggling to hear the sound on the PowerPoint, here is a video of the full PowerPoint. You may need to come out of this to watch the White Rose video mentioned and linked below. Just press pause and continue whenever you are ready.

https://youtu.be/18uZT778iEs

You will find the corresponding worksheet attached at the bottom of the blog. You not not need to print this. Recording your answers on a piece of paper will be absolutely fine.

  Times Tables

Swallows have really enjoyed learning how to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 over the past few months. We have now started to answer multiplication and division number sentences for the 2, 5- and 10-times table. Can your Swallow write out the 2 x table? Can you write it quicker than yesterday? When writing each number sentence, please encourage your Swallow to say ‘ 1 lot of 2’ ‘2 lots of 2’ ‘3 lots of 2’.

1 x 2  =

2 x 2 =

3 x 2 =

Good morning lovely Owls.
I am so sorry that I did not get to see you all on Monday but I heard that you all had such fun in the ice and snow! I will miss seeing you all very much but looking forward to seeing all the things you get up to at home.

Each day I will set you some activities that you can do at home. We will do Phonics everyday like we do in school and then there will be one other activity for you to do during the day. Each day we will do something different. Please remember to share what you do at home with me on Tapestry. It's a great way for us to keep in touch!

Grown ups- If you have trouble accessing the sound on the Power points I have also included a video version of the Power point. You might just need to pause it at different parts.
Just like at school, remember to have your busy time between all of your hard work and choose what you would like to play with at home. At school, we have little bursts of learning, followed by times where we play because we know playing is learning!

RWI Phonics-See the PowerPoint attached for the links for today’s RWI lessons. You follow the different links on the Power point depending on what group you are in for Phonics which will take you to videos you can watch. There are several videos to watch. You may want to do them all together or to split them up and do them at different times during the day. Do whatever is best for you.

Maths-Shapes- See the Power point attached. See if you can collect some shapes from around the house and sort them.

Story-Every day in class we always share a story together. I have recorded a video to share. Hope you enjoy listening and discuss what happened with your grown up. What happened? Who are the main characters?

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Wednesday 6th January 2021

Good Morning Starlings,

It was so lovely to see all the children’s happy faces on Monday and we will really miss seeing them and we were sad not to be able to say a proper goodbye. However, we must keep your children safe so we are moving to an exciting new way of home learning today. Everyday a new class discussion will be opened and this is where feedback will be given, where you can ask us any questions and upload any work completed. Mrs Judge will be responding during school hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs O’Marah on Thursdays and Fridays. If you ever have any problems, questions or issues (for example the audio clips on Power point) you can also always contact the office directly. We will also be ringing you at some point to see how you are getting  on with home learning.
Please do not worry about printing any of the tasks off  – any of these activities can be done on paper.

It just leaves us to say a huge thank you for our very gorgeous and generous Christmas gifts. We will miss your children very much.

Mrs Judge, Mrs O’Marah, Mrs Esling and Mrs Southern

Please see below for instructions and links:

  Maths

Money – Please see the Power point attached. Our home learning maths lessons will be guided by a recording of my voice which will explain what to do (like I do each day in class). Just click on the little speaker icon on the power point page to hear the instructions.

See if you can collect some coins from around the house to help you (raid your money box or ask an adult first before you empty their purse though!)

 Writing

Little Red Riding Hood – Please see the Power point attached. Like the maths, instructions have been recorded so just click on the audio button to hear what to do.

   RWI - Phonics

Your child should have received a new sticker and bookmark in their homework diaries yesterday so you will know which RWI group they are in. If you are unsure, please email the office and we will let you know. Please follow the link of your child’s colour in the English Power point. This will take you to a RWI video of the sound of the day, red words (our tricky words which we can’t sound out) and a ‘hold a sentence’ activity all of which the video will talk through.

Obviously we’d love for the children to read as much as possible for pleasure and I’m sure they’d love to cuddle up and hear a story from any grownups or siblings in the house too.

Hello and welcome back to Swallows class blog.

Swallows have had the most wonderful final week of term. We enjoyed watching the Christmas Pantomime, solving tricky maths problem for Santa and partying our Friday away. We indulged on a delicious Christmas dinner on Wednesday and had lots of fun guessing our brand new story book for next term.

For our last worship of the term, we shared our hopes and dreams for the new year together and wrote these onto guiding stars. As always, Swallows shared their thoughts beautifully and reflected on what went well and what could have been better for them this year.

Read Write Inc

We completed our Read Write Inc assessments this week and will have some new groups in the new year. A sticker will be put into diaries with information about changes in groups in the first week back.

Meanwhile, in phonics our groups have worked hard on the following this week:

Spellings

Here is a list of all of the spellings we have learnt so far this year. Can you play our special 'Snakes and Ladders' board game to help you to revise each spelling? If you are struggling to find a dice, just write the numbers 1-6 on small pieces of paper, turn them over and take it in turns to choose a number. ðŸ˜Š Remember to check your diary to see which spellings you need to focus on from previous weeks.

When we return to school in January, we will continue to focus our writing on the beautiful story ‘The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark’. We will learn about how adjectives can be changed into adverbs to describe how the owl in the story is flying by adding ‘ly’.  We will also focus on the use of lists of words separated by a comma and the application of adverbs ending in ly to describe the movement fireworks.

Our Maths learning will focus on money after the holiday. We will count money using coins and notes and show different amounts. Please spend some time looking at money over the Christmas break. How many different coins are there? How can we tell how much a coin is worth? Which coin is worth the most/least?

We hope you have enjoyed watching our virtual Christmas plays and carol service this year. The children had a wonderful time putting them together and I know I will certainly cherish the memories we have made this year. If you have not received the links for any of the performances, please email admin who will send it to you.

Finally, Mrs Elson and I and I want to say a huge thank you for the lovely gifts and cards we received this year. We are overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness. THANK YOU!

Thank you for being such super Swallows this year. Mrs Elson, Mr Sephton, Theresa and I are all SO proud of you.

We can’t wait to welcome you back in January for another year of laughs and learning together.

Miss Gillam
