If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Times Tables
This week can you practice your x11 tables? Don’t forget to practice other tables that you still find tricky too. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

Writing
Hansel and Gretel: Again, please see the PowerPoint attached. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do. Today, we will continue to look at the book ‘Hansel and Gretel’ by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. We will be looking at exciting vocabulary to describe a forest setting before creating our own forest illustrations based on the extract of the text we have read.
If you wish to download and print the extract from Hansel and Gretel that we will be using today, I have attached it to this blog. However, this is not essential as the text will also be included and read aloud in our English PowerPoint/Video.
If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the writing lesson at the following YouTube link:
If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.
Reading
It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.
This week’s author of the week is Nizrana Farook. You can read/listen to her story ‘The girl who stole an elephant’ at the link below:

Remember to continue writing in your reading diary and get an adult to sign in, then we can collect our raffle tickets when we are back in school.
Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?
Spellings

Swallows - Monday 25th January 2021, by Miss Gillam

Monday 25th January 2021
Q
Hello and welcome back to Swallows class blog.
It is Monday again already! Did you have a nice weekend? Did you get to play in the snow this weekend?
I hope you are relaxed, rested and ready for another busy week of home learning. Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or tell have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages. It is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch. Today, we are launching our brand new ‘Homework’ section of our School Spider website. Please have a go at uploading some of your work today. This is a private upload and it will allow me to mark your work. I will talk you through how to use this new tool during our Zoom call at 9.20am.
Maths – Maths – Can you select money? Please see the link to our talking PowerPoint below. Please pause the video to complete each activity. Just like last week, I have embedded the White Rose video onto our PowerPoint. This should mean that you do not need to leave the video. As the PowerPoints are such large documents to download, we feel it would be best for everyone to access their learning via the YouTube link.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPxtPosb6Ho&feature=youtu.be
If you would rather watch our White Rose video in a separate tab or on a different device, here is a link to today’s video. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/week-10-measurement-money/ Please select lesson 4, ‘Select Money’.
Times Tables
Times Tables Rockstars
I was planning to introduce Times Tables Rock Stars to the children in the first week of January. We would have had some sessions using it in school so that I could then have sent the log in details home with the children to use as part of their weekly Maths homework, which is in line with our Key Stage Two classes. However, the National Lockdown prevented this from happening.
As we do not have a confirmed date for the children to return to school, I have set the children up on this system for them to use at home if you wish. The children can practise the times tables that I have set for them (these will predominantly be 2's, 5's and 10's in Y2) using a devise. As they play, they can earn coins and make their way up the leader board. This is a fun, engaging and interactive way for the children to learn their times tables.
If you would like your child's log in details, please contact the school office via the admin address and they will email them across to you. Ideally, I would have explained how this works with the children and they would have had time in class to navigate the game with me in the classroom. Therefore, you may wish to wait until we are back in school so that I can explain it to the children in detail.

Writing
Can I plan a re-telling of the story ‘Saint George and the Dragon’?
Please see the talking PowerPoint video linked below. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click play and then pause when it is time to complete an activity.
I have attached the story of ‘Saint George and the Dragon’ to our blog so that you can remind yourself of what happened in the story if you need to.
Here is the link to the ‘Draw with Rob’ video that I mentioned on our PowerPoint today. I also found a lovely little owl.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your happy faces on our Zoom call at 9.20 but I’ll also be available for a ‘chat’ on the Class Discussion page. I am also going to add a ‘Homework’ feature as this means you can upload any work your child does privately and only the teachers can see it and then we can also give you individual feedback on your child’s work. The key thing to note is to use the 'upload your homework' button rather than 'post your reply' as if you 'post your reply' everyone can see this.

Good morning Skylarks 😊
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another busy week of home learning.
Please remember our zoom sessions will continue this week, starting at 8.40am. You will find the meeting link and passcode in your emails or on our class discussion for today.
Today we are also introducing the homework feature on school spider. This allows you to submit your maths and English work online to just me, rather than the whole class. I will then look at your work and provide you with feedback. The important part to note is that you need to use the ‘Upload your homework’ button for it to go only to me. If you use the ‘Post your reply’ section, the other children in the class can see your work too (like on our discussion).
Our class discussion will also be up and running as normal for you to ask any questions. You can also continue to share your work on our discussion if you are happy to share it with all of your Skylark friends.

Swallows - Friday 22nd January 2021, by Miss Gillam
Date: 22nd Jan 2021 @ 7:28am
Friday 22nd January 2021
Hello Swallows!
You made it to Friday! Well done for another brilliant week of home learning. I have been amazed by the enthusiasm and determination shown by so many Swallows this week. I am so incredibly proud of every single one of you.
I would love to hear about the super learning that you complete at home today on our class discussion. Perhaps you could tell me your highlight of the week? What has been your favourite activity? Alternatively, you could send me an email with some of your work attached to it.
As always, please do let me know if you have any questions about today’s learning. I will be available on our discussion for the duration of the school day.
It was fantastic to see so many of you on our zoom meeting yesterday! Today’s meeting will start at 9:20 am again – please see your emails or our class discussion for the meeting link and password.
Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.
Maths – Can you count money? Today we are going to be learning how to count money with a focus on pounds AND pence. We will be using the part-whole and bar model to help us. Please see the link to our talking PowerPoint below. Please pause the video to complete each activity. Just like yesterday, I have embedded the White Rose video onto our PowerPoint. This should mean that you do not need to leave the video. As the PowerPoints are such large documents to download, we feel it would be best for everyone to access their learning via the YouTube link. We hope that this will make accessing your home learning even easier.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ydtrB6YXQ&feature=youtu.be
Times Tables
Today we are going to continue to learn our 5 x table. Here is a link to a game that you can play online. Coconut Multiples is a tablet-friendly maths game which can reinforce your knowledge of times tables by helping you to recognise the multiples from each table. I want you to think to yourself, will I say this number if I am counting in 5s? Please select multiples of 5 first. You could then have a go at spotting multiples of 2 and 10 if you wanted to.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/times-tables/coconut-multiples
I have also attached a ‘Multiplication Muddle’ board game to the blog which you could choose to play if you wanted some time away from the screen.
Writing
Can you write a letter as one of the villagers to a friend/family member?
Please see the talking PowerPoint video linked below. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click play and then pause when it is time to complete an activity.
I have attached the story of ‘Saint George and the Dragon’ to our blog so that you can remind yourself of what happened in the story if you need to. Having your emotions graph out might help you with today’s lesson too.
Reading
Please spend some time reading either the school book you took home with you or a book you have been reading at home each day. Please also remember to use our Oxford Owl website to access reading books online. Here you can access Read Write Inc and other story books at your level.

I want to see if you can get 5/5 today. Alternatively, complete your spelling quiz with me at the end of our English PowerPoint today.

Reflection
Talk to your family about the Global Goals and think about what small actions you could take at home. Make a pledge on the blank puzzle piece attached to today’s Blog about what you and your family could do.
For example: Mrs Evans’ family are no longer using plastic food bags and cling film. They are on a mission to make sure they turn off the lights in the rooms they are not using and they go for walks and runs locally so they don’t use the car as much.
PE
Do you remember how much we enjoyed our gymnastics learning last year? In the game linked below, you get the chance to revisit all of the jumps that we learnt with Laura in our gymnastics lessons. You will need a large, clear space and please make you that you either have bare feet or trainers on. Warning…. This game might get tiring VERY quickly. Who is up for the challenge?

Have a brilliant day Swallows and don’t forget to let me know how you are getting on with your learning in our class discussion today. I can’t wait to see you all on our Zoom call today at 9:20!
Have a wonderful weekend!

I have attached the First News newspaper again as there were so many great articles for you to enjoy. Can you find 3 new facts today to share with someone in your house?
Spellings
Time for our quiz! I have recorded the spelling quiz for you, it is attached to the Story Time Power Point. Good luck!
Worship
Our worship today is brought to you by Mrs Powell. She explains about The Global Goals that we will be exploring from now on at school.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXAJvJZHekE&feature=youtu.be
"The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."
(Genesis 2:15)
Our new Christian Value is RESPECT. Look again at the 17 Global Goals below and think about how we can respect our own homes, gardens, parks and local area.
Time to stop and relax and come with me as Sophie and The BFG make the journey to London!
If you can't hear me on the Power Point, I have turned today's story time into a you tube video for you.
Thank you all so much for your hard work, concentration, effort and your Zoom smiles this week.
Have a super duper weekend.
Love from

Thursday 21st January 2021
Good morning
Happy Thursday Swallows!
How are you this morning? It was fantastic to see so many of you on our zoom meeting yesterday! Today’s meeting will start at 9:20 am again – please see your emails or our class discussion for the meeting link and password.
Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.
Maths – Can I count money? Today we are going to be learning how to count money with a focus on pounds. Fingers crossed Miss Gillam’s new trick works…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhEXYw4ISWs&feature=youtu.be
Times Tables
Writing - Can I add –ed to the end of a present tense verb?
Please see the talking PowerPoint video linked below. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click play and then pause when it is time to complete an activity.
I have attached the story of ‘Saint George and the Dragon’ to our blog so that you can make reference to the text throughout today’s lesson. You do not need to print this to be successful in today’s lesson as I have also copied the text onto our slides.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMadZgJM76E&feature=youtu.be

Please spend some time reading either the school book you took home with you or a book you have been reading at home each day. Please also remember to use our Oxford Owl website to access reading books online. Here you can access Read Write Inc and other story books at your level.

Some of you may have set this up last week, if so just login to your account and take part in session 2: https://app.smilingmind.com.au/
If you haven’t yet made an account, you can follow these instructions. First, you will need to sign up to a free account at https://app.smilingmind.com.au/ (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’. Then you need to select which type of mindfulness activities you are interested in, I recommend choosing ‘improving wellbeing’. Finally select the resources for ’10-12 year olds’ and you will now have access to 60+ mindfulness sessions that are great to help your child relax, unwind and switch off after a busy day of home learning.
Have a super day Skylarks and remember I will be on our class discussion during the school day for a chat or to help you with your home learning 😊
